OUCH!
READ THIS:
.... For striped bass, the commission voted Tuesday to immediately close the Atlantic coast to commercial harvesting of the popular seafood and game fish, known locally as stripers or rockfish. According to the emergency action Tuesday, Virginia watermen can take 98,000 pounds of stripers from the ocean per year. So far in 2002, they have captured about 600,000 pounds, said Jack Travelstead, state director of saltwater fisheries. Quote:

  Holy Crap Batman!
Are they serious? more than 6 times the alloted amount? |
An election must be approaching---"give a dribble to the peons". :af: :af: Nothing changes until ALL clubs, boards, etc. flood them with petitions to make Striped Bass, Bluefish, Weakfish, etc. GAME FISH. The money involved for sportfishing is a positive flow (money comes in )---the money for commercial fishing is a negative flow (money goes out--buy outs, subsidies, etc.).But until they feel that the VOTES are more numerous in the sportfishing sector--nothing will ever change.
