Banded Rudderfish
 

found these guys under a float in Chatham last week. They were pretty cool. I like this time of the year for all the small exotics we get, but this is the first time of seen these. It was a little hard to find out what they were, since most guides have the adult which have no stripes. They are a jack and very close to the amberjack and pilot fish. Just thought id share.

I was on a trip to Mattapoisett 2 weeks ago and saw em in the rocks. Didn't know the name. Thanks!

Every now and again I pick one up on a light shore spinning set up I have for bones and albies out here. They usually show up in Sept. Kewl looking fish.

Those would look good with a 10/0 circle hook bridled between their eyes.

Nice! I saw a couple back in July under my mooring (about 2-3"), then again end of August under the docks (about 6-7"). This was in Onset. Figured they were tropical.

My 5 year old and 2 year old sons each caught one of these last week. I've been asking everyone what they were, but nobody I spoke to knew. Had a pic on my phone but forgot to hit save. D'oh!!

Thanks for the post, it will make my sons' day. They've been calling them tigerfish, but they would do it with a laugh knowing it wasnt the truth.

They are cruising among the shipyards in Fairhaven.
