Sturgeon
Today my brothers Jim (MountainCaster) , Pat and I were scouting for bass on the BackBeach and found a sturgeon. In tough shape, but whole. About 5 1/2 feet long. Rich at Nelson's B&T was kind enough to download my camera's card. I can't do it on this machine and the other is a week away. He said he'd post them for us here.:) Coolest thing I've found so far. Today also yeilded 2 shark vertabrate about 8 inches in diameter! Not whale, wasn't vascular enough. And two plugs. I love beachcombing! :uhuh:

Thats weird, theres one washed up down here in RI too....
|
Yes!! Looked just like that! How big was that one?
|
Could they have been netted by mistake (died) and then release back out to the sea?
Never seen a Sturgeon here before ever. I've seen them out on the Oregon coast area. Pretty archiac looking - sort of like a dinosaur. |
We got a couple back when I used to gillnet. Looks like a dinasaur, really cool.
|
See them at the mouth of the CT river all the time. They tend to leap out of the water especially during spring.
|
Most of the rivers in New England have native sturgeon populations.
|
I found one about 3 years ago in the Sakonnet dead and rank :yak6:
probably about 4' long |

Found by Back Beach and his blood line.

Thanks a ton, Rich.
MD2020, my first impression as I drove toward it was " WTH is an iguana doing out here?" |
