pogies or mackrel
 

ok alot of you might say i'm stupid but i'm just wondering & a little bit slow haha...

ok sooo a bunch of people say that pogies are the best chunking bait for stripers and is like striper candy. Also a bunch of people always say that mackrell always works and never fails...

what do you guys say is the best to chunk?

As with plugs you got to match what is around for best results-- some say CCB is better with Macks and BB is great for Pogies.... I agree with this the last time I bait fished which is many many years ago... Always bring both and double up once you see what they want.

Fresh pogies are hard to beat.However, mackerel will always work and it stays on the hook better.It also casts much better than pogy chunks . If the pogies are not in prime condition , chum w/pogies and fish w/ macks.

Mogies are the way to go.

do mackrell heads work as good as pogies or is that just something to cut up as much as possible and use it to try to attract fish

also i know people do it with whats in there suroundings but does it matter the bottom? sand/rock???

and i think i already ansered this but i just got a casting net and if i get a couple scup well big minoes would they work livelining them?

i tried both yesterday and the both s*cked. i even tried chumming the poggies and chunking the macks, none was catching anything...

cant beat the price though$$$$

seen it happen the guy put a piece of hot dog on his hook and caught a Bass about 18" but still what the hell !I was pluging right next to him !

Good Question. I only chum (toss) the heads. I have heard of people fishing with them, though. Any thoughts???

I have fished with the mack heads and caught fish (situations where I was running low on bait) but I don't believe they are anywhere near as productive as Pogie heads. The head is probably the best part of a pogie but then again I voted mackerel because I feel it is a better bait. But like stated earlier nothing beats those fresh herring chunks, too bad.:wall:
