Shop Door Info???
I am looking to install a door on my shop similar to the one Norm Abrahms has on his shop in The New Yankee Workshop. I need to know what that type of door is called and where I can get one??? I went to The New Yankee Workshop website but found nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you mean the herringbone pattern door?
JPI built some nice ones for his barn, I remember when he posted the pics... meybe he will chime in. Norm.. I heard he got nasal passage cancer from all the years of sawdust.. hope he is gonna be OK... |

that's scary stuff. Bigfish, there are custom garage door companies that make custom doors. Or I could make you one easily. |
Larry, are you looking for the rolling door? It is set up like a pocket door, only mounted on the the exterior wall. Not the most weather tight system... Go into the album on the website, use thge drop down menu, and click on the "Here at the New Yankee Workshop" for a pic of him in front of the door, partially obscuring it. There is also a pic of him and producer Russ with some nice stripers!

I saw all that Ross (they were nice bass) but there is no specific info! Thanks though! I was also curious about the weather tightness?

With the Z frame you can lay your boards vertical or on an angle, like
Norm's. These doors are butted against 1x2 stops and give a good seal. Just need a sweep on the bottomand they should be pretty air tight. Hope it helps. |
Larry go to this old house dot com. and look around, they have a link where ya can email them a question...
if you want the herringbone on both sides with the frame not showing, that is doable too, ya make a door sammich... the link for the sliding (rolling) door hardware, will alow you to make your door panel work that way, if that is what you want.. I am sure you can figger it out.. Or.. call Slip.. he can do it :D JPI.. nice door...:D |
2x3 frame
2" solid foam insulation in between boarding on the outside ply on the inside 3- hvy. duty galv.6" hindges on each door or 12" strap hindges sidestop on the inside.. think reg. door instillation...bob's your uncle. |
