Used Computer
1 Attachment(s)
I need some techie help. I just picked up a used notebook and need to know if I got a deal or not. It is a Dell latitude D410. Has XP pro, Pentium M processor, 2.0GH, 2.0 GB memory, 80GB hard drive. built in wireless card. 12.1" screen dvd is external with a D bay. wifi compatable. (I turned it on in my living room and it said I had a signal. I got on line without being plugged into cable. ????) As you can tell I am fairly computer illiterate. seems pretty cool but the screen is small.
what does the 798 mean? |
I believe that has something to do with the ability of the processor to clock back to save power when on the battery.

to save power they downclock.
its a 2ghz cpu running at 798mhz right now. plug it in to the outlet and it'll go back up |
cool, is it a halfway decent machine or did I get hosed? And how can I get on the internet without being plugged in? I don't have a wireless router.
|
How much $$$
It sounds like a decent laptop. If you don't have a wireless router you will need to plug in. -spence |
I paid 450. I am using it right now. Hard to get used to this small keyboard. Am I using someone elses bandwidth by not being plugged in?

I would use the high speed connection. If they haven't secured their network they sure as hell don't know how to monitor ANYthing you do....
And you can turn on your firewall to boot........... |
Well, it is stealing :smash:

I think you got a good deal at 450. I bought several of those for work in oct of 05 they were 1800 +. I think you did ok. Your config (mem, hd ect) is good.
I would check out your battery's serial # at https://www.dellbatteryprogram.com/Identify.aspx All of the d410's that I have have a bad battery in them. It is very important to get it replaced, as it could catch fire. There is a defect in the design that a shock or vibration can cause fire. If you do have a recalled one, make sure to send your old one back so it is out of your hands. You can get a usb keyboard if you find it too small to type on. Those also usually have dial up modem and a network port so you can plug into whatever connection you have. Enjoy. |
