Changing of the guard

I will no longer be writing the Outer Cape Insiders report for OTW. A new person will be doing come next April. I had fun but one can only write things like that before it gets stale.

I had fun and hope I helped in some small way.

I can now concentrate on feature articles with more time for in depth research.

Thanks to all who took time to check it out each month!

reelecstasy 10-30-2006 03:40 PM

always read it, you did a great job Steve :claps:

BigBo 10-30-2006 03:52 PM

Well, your insight and thoughts each month have been enlightening, informative, and entertaining. Your monthly input will be missed. I'm sure your successor will be good too, but I'll miss reading your reports. You added very good style to the Insiders Reports section.
Thanks for your years of service, and I'll look forward to your feature articles.

Nebe 10-30-2006 04:31 PM

flap, i read it every month and i never fish there.

good luck with the features :kewl:

BigFish 10-30-2006 04:33 PM

Steve....your insiders report has always been the first thing I flip to when I get the new issue!!! I cut my "striper teeth" reading your insiders report Steve and it is what helped me most in this passion we all love! Thanks for all your hard work and great writing!!:btu: I look forward to more feature articles!:bgi:

beamie 10-30-2006 04:40 PM

Your a good pen Flap. Your correct about getting stale. You could take your whole year of reports and just repeat them.....and they would again be true....just like every year after year. A change every year or so with report writers is really necessary.

JohnR 10-30-2006 04:41 PM

Thank you Steve! You probably do not realize how many you have inspired and helped along for all of those year - Thanks!

basswipe 10-30-2006 04:42 PM

Not that I've ever fished the outer Cape but a great read none the less!

Bronko 10-30-2006 04:47 PM

Thanks Steve

Its the first thing I flip to as well. Always an informative read.:D

Slipknot 10-30-2006 05:18 PM

We'll miss your monthly report but look forward to your feature articles. Thanks for all your help and inspiration. Good luck to the new guy, I hope we can get the feds to do a study on those damn seals soon, I'll kill one in your honor next time out :D

Karl F 10-30-2006 05:20 PM

Have not read the magizine in a while, but you always put out a good read. Change is good, and good for you... time to broaden the horizons with your prose, even as you continue there as a feature writer.. other oppurtunities are out there.. just like fishing.. persue all venues..:kewl:

Good luck to the new fellow.... and I hope he is as truthfull, and cautious in his reports, as you were....and Thank You for that!

Now.. don't go the way of your predecessor.. :hihi:...

tattoobob 10-30-2006 05:23 PM

Always a great read, thanks for the time you put into it.

Jenn 10-30-2006 06:05 PM

:conf: :( you KNOW this saddens me and will be missed. Guess I will have to start reading my issues from front to back instead of back to front now....(I am going through withdrawls already this month by the way....)

Please remember those of us who are "junkies" for your tales and wisdom of those mystical beaches when writing those feature articles!!!!!:wavey:

Excuse me I need to go mourn now.....

libassboy 10-30-2006 06:07 PM

Same as NEBE never fished there, read it every month anyways.

Slingah 10-30-2006 06:12 PM

Backbeach Jake 10-30-2006 06:41 PM

Gonna miss the monthly column, but I'm really looking forward to the articles. You're a very fine writer, Steve. I always look forward to your next work.

Tagger 10-30-2006 06:51 PM

loved reading your stuff in OTW .. won't be the same ..

nightfighter 10-30-2006 07:35 PM

With your daughter attending school up this way, maybe a little time to scan through Fulton's reports for a few trips next spring?

PI guy 10-30-2006 08:11 PM

Thanks for all the great insight. Like others I have not fished the outer cape (yet) but still always enjoyed the report and tried to gather some hints for the home field.

BasicPatrick 10-30-2006 08:23 PM

Steve,

I have an "Insiders" deep deep respect for both your writing style and the honesty that shines through that style. This news is bittersweet as I will miss your column but can also understand after writing my own column for only one season how one can only write so much about a limited area and keep the columns fresh.

CapeDawg 10-30-2006 08:54 PM

I read it and look forward to the report each month. Living here and fishing here, I appreciate all the insight you'd write each month. Good luck with your feature articles, I'll look forward to those also. :btu:

justplugit 10-30-2006 09:19 PM

Always opened to your column first,Steve. Will miss it. As stated before, you have unbelievable descriptive wrting skills and should be working on your own book, imho. Look forward to reading your feature articles. :btu:

pops02 10-30-2006 09:39 PM

Your article was the first i read, every issue. Thanks for all the help, and like Karl F wrote, thanks for your honest style of writing, and your first hand accounts of fishing the backside. Your monthly articles will be missed. Thanks again.

tynan19 10-30-2006 10:28 PM

Thanks Steve, I enjoyed it as well.

Skitterpop 10-30-2006 10:46 PM

Jenn, the mysticism will be more profound and I dedicate my first feature of the new year to you! It's a tale of a famous old time surfman who is my hero and who knew the beach more intimately than any other I know, someone who was driven to fish and who was an eccentric who savored star lit skies, the open beach and fished mostly alone and set a standard that all who came after him and tried to emulate him could never achieve. He was the best at what he did and set the bar that no one has since been able to achieve. A cold winter nights read that hopefully will draw you back to the place you love so well and will set the dreams of all of us who love it so much as we settle in for that "long winter's nap".

Bassmaster? :hidin: Frankie D.?

Sheeeeeet I have to renew...since 97 :musc: Great mag :kewl:

Steve!

BigFish 10-31-2006 07:04 AM

Stan K.?

Fish_Eye 10-31-2006 07:47 AM

Steve,

Your contribution helped make the magazine the popular read that it is today. I'm sure your feature articles will be equally well received.

Best wishes,

Mike
