Vote no we don't need more outlets to get Beer & Wine,
other states treat beer and wine like a novalty IT ISN'T there is no control
they control hard stuff why?

There is a packie 5 minutes in any direction from me, they are everywhere. Why do we need more places to get wine or beer? The high school kids that work the register will just sell to their friends.

passing more laws wont stop people that are already breaking the law from doing so.

what I have seen is that the law on the books now limits a CHAIN from operating more than 3 groceries with liquor. so if they are all indipendent - like the big grocery in my town (plus two full blown within 1/4 mile) - then they can (and in my case do) sell booze.

this law wont suddenly have drunk kids on the streets.
legalize it and regulate it.
thats the only way to properly deal with it without having artificially high prices.

They can't.
They're not allowed to touch alcohol. If someone comes through with beer/wine then they have to call over a manager to ring it up.

I thought this question was for wine only, not also beer. Kids aren't going to buy wine to go to a party. This will make it more convenient for the people who do drink wine to get it at the same store. Many states already do so. This won't put the small guy out of business. It is just like a tackle shop....you'll pay less at the big place but if you are a serious wine enthusiest the big place won't answer your questions on selection.

Convienence and cost savings are a good thing. The thing thats pushed me in favor of voting Yes are the camapaign posters that say: "Vote No against underage drinking". Its misleading Bullcrap and it cost them at least one vote.

I will be voting YES on 1. The liquor store owners have fabricated this whole public safety issue related to wine sales to hide the fact that they want to maintain their monopoly on wine / booze sales.

Thirty four other states in the US allow wine sales and guess what -- they dont have any huge public safety issues resulting from grocery stores selling wine.

I say screw the liquor lobby in this state as its only interested in protecting its $$$ monopoly at the expense of the consumers in this State. Dont believe me? Look at their history over the last couple of years:

1.) Just last year they effectively derailed/ gutted the ability of vineyards to ship wine to customers in this state under the B.S argument that minors were going to purchase wine and have it shipped to them. Yea right! Lots of teens out there ordering Opus One online at 75 bucks a bottle!

2.) The liquor lobby also tried their hardest to prevent Sunday liquor sales in the state of MA. They again played the BS public safety issue card on this one too. The fact is they did not want to have to open on Sundays in order to protect their pocketbooks.

The liquor lobby in MA wants to operate under some type of quasi Socialist system at the expense of US THE CONSUMERS! Their whole public safety argument is a huge boondogle in an attempt to protect their pocketbooks.

VOTE YES ON 1 and screw those trying to screw us the consumers!

I don't know about the "Artificially High Prices" angle. I've bought booze in NH where the State regulates it and it is no cheaper than what we pay in MA at the Packies

And I know that the prices are higher in Pennsylvania and New York compared to what we pay.

So if that is the argument that the commercials are using to get you to vote yes on #1 then they are full O' chit.

I'm voting NO Mainly because the Big Companies don't need another way of taking business from the little guy.....same reason a lot of people here go to the Local B&T's for their fishing supplies

Why would the liquor Lobby be AGAINST having another day to make money. Your telling me they would rather NOT sell on Sundays and have business ($$$) go to states like NH. what would be the rationale to that?

Their feeling was it would not increase overall Liquor Sales just spread it over 7 days rather than 6 thus increasing their expense with no additional revenue. Don't forget their outcry against the implementation of the Mass bottle bill also.

Yes thats right they did not want to open on Sundays! Instead of having to pay for operating costs (i.e utilities, wages, etc) to be open on Sundays they increases their profits by filtering all their weekend sales into one day (Saturday) . Also, they effectively forced consumers to overpurchase and stock up on their booze out of fear that they might "run out" of alchohol on Sunday.

Also, while I did travel to NH a few Sundays in college simply to purchase booze (years ago when I was young and stupid) travelling from the Cape to NH is not realistic!

I don't know about that... Stalin might not be far enough left to get elected by the idiots in this State....

The states that sell beer and wine everyone have a 2 1/2 times greater fatal crash rate than Massachusetts. So dont say that other states do not have any problem with selling alcohol virtually everywhere to everyone. You must onw a company that sells bodybags. If voting no saves one parent from getting a visit at 3 a.m. then its worth it.

Actually, my facts are not skewed as the facts will show that the "no one proponents" are the ones skewing the facts. The TRUTH is that there are also states that prohibit grocery store wine sales whose accident rates are also 2 .5 times higher than the rate in MA. Just more hogwash from the MA liquor lobby trying to scare us into protecting their wallets.

Just remember -- figures lie and liars figure.

And no I dont own a body bag company. I am a person who enjoys drinking good wine who does not like having my choices limited by a group who pays off the Politicians of this state in order to protect their wallets.

You can state facts untill your blue in the face, the bottom line is alcohol is dangerous and need to be controled, and I believe it should be by a small business who will lose the most buy selling to a minor. It is not candy or gum and should be regulated. I don't like it and I am voting NO!

Why don't you ask a parent who lost a teenager or a Spouse Who lost half there family to a drunk drive how they are voting. I bet they are voting no

When our local Hannaford was still a Victory, they carded EVERYONE without fail. And the Kids checking you out never touched the product. I felt no imposition and thought that it was the right thing to do. The local Packys on the other hand...:doh:
