Gear ?

I'm hanging it up until next season - hope it's much better than this past. So I need gear talk - best lami for plugs - spin, 9' or 10' , 2oz. It'll also need to work poppers especially well. Thinking of picking up some stocking foot waders- question is, what king of boot will stand up to the salt-? Do you guys just sacrifice an old pair of Timberlands or do they make something I can waste money on?
Thanks.

I like my Lami 120 1L for plugging.
I got my wading boots from Cabela's pretty cheap.

Proline wading boots are cheap, not too bad either. They'll run you about $40 at #^&#^&#^&#^&'s Sporting Goods.

i like the lami 1201 L for plugs.. wading boots i use LL Bean's Ultra light wading shoe with studded aquastealth soles. I never need korkers unless i am in heavy bubble weed.

Waders and boots buy ll bean 100% satisfaction guarantee. Just called and got a new pair for my leaky ones, will be here thursday, no charge for shipping either.

When you say 2 oz--are you going to be throwing just 2 oz, 2 oz and maybe up to 3-1/2, or 2 oz and down to, say, 3/4 oz?

If 2 oz is tops, then the XRA 1203 or GSB 120 1L.

If 2 oz is your floor, then the XRA 1205 or the GSB 120 1M. And both will pop a popper with a little more authority than their lighter actioned cousins.

Nebe -those beans sound just right. I've got the lami 120 1L - great rod- I use it for everything. I'm wondering if they make something comparable, but with a bit faster action. Most everything I throw is between 1.5 and 2 oz. The guy that I fish with has a 2 piece lami (10ft) that seems to work a popper beautifully, even at the far end of his cast - swipers and gibbs at 2. He kicks my azz out there and must be destroyed. Please help.

I'd go with the 1201M if you already have the L. For boots, I'd recommend the LLBean River Threads w/ Aquastealth if you fish the rocks (alittle more ankle support than the ultra lights). If you want a faster action rod (the 1201M really isn't but the added stiffness may make up for that for you) I'd look around and see if you can find an All-Star 1145 (9.5 ft) - its great in the weight range you're looking for but All-Star doesn't make salt water blanks anymore.

my cheap rubba hip boots got a bad case of dry-rot in the heat of the summer sun on my porch. whats a good choice for next step up set of waders? what do they go for? lookin at the well under 100bucks range.
I dont catch enough to justify expensive gear.

Clogston29 10-31-2006 02:13 PM

my experience with cheaper waders is that the seams suck and they stretch and leak very easily. I used to not be able to get a month out of a pair of waders until I bought the Patagonia ones I'm using now. If your looking to get a cheaper pair, look into the cheapest LLBean ones and return them as required.
