VEGA DUPLICATOR
WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO BUY ONE
|
|
PM me before you buy the carbide insert tool set up.
|
In most cases the total cost is determined by "shipping costs". I found that the actual duplicator price was pretty standard among suppliers.
I got mine at Penn State Industries and paid full boat for shipping. You can do better. If I had it to do again I would call Vega direct. Yes, contact Professor M before you buy a carbide tool holder and cutter |
I just called Vega and they said to MA, $229 + $15 shipping. Quite a bit more than some of the sites I checked out. Oh well, back to the drawing board

That's about right! Why back to the drawing board? I paid $240 + $35 shipping. The machine is worth every penny! |

So far, I've got the cheapest at $219 with $6.50 shipping. Probably going there |

Southern Tools 204+14.50 Shipping

Well, that's it. Just pulled the trigger on the Vega from Southern-tool. Misread my quotes and THEY were less :o
There's gonna be a TON of sawdust on the floor this winter....I might burn it for heat :laughs: Gonna mount it on the back of the Delta. Question, though. Someone mentioned mounting it on the back and sanding from the front.....how does the lathe stay stable when cutting? Do you mount it to the table and dismount, turn around, then re-mount or is the weight of the lathe enough? Sorry if this is a hijack |
The duplicator is nthing but a piece of extruded aluminum with the necessary attachments.
If you mount it on the back you have to turn the tool upside down. Then you can use your tool rest or sand from the front. The lathe is plenty stable and will hold the weight of the dup with no problem. Plese understand that you have to work the dup from the back if that's where you mount it. Those of us with a bench built against the wall, well we just can't gt back there. I had a fellow make me a couple of stops for the mounting legs of my dup. I can pop it off and work the plug from the tool rest which is mounted between the clamps. Then when I am ready I just pop the dup right back on and it's centered. Good luck with the new toy! |
