WTB Kid's fly rod set up

The young son of my friend is interested in moving from spin to fly fishing. Any advice on what to look for, and available set ups would be appreciated. I will pass them on to him within a day of posting. Thanks.

Is he large or small for his age? Reason for asking: strength....comfort with fast, medium, vs. slow actions. When I was 12 years old I was 6'2" and used my Dad's tackle.....wasn't the case with many of my friends.

What species (& sizes) will they target? Floating lines, sink tips, full sink (I don't recommend for a kid if wading)?

Stupid question alert! Will they have to battle wind?

Without knowing the answers to these questions, I'm leaning toward a medium-action 6wt. with 7wt line. Maybe a med-fast 7wt with 8wt line.

Please answer the above questions and I'll see if I can provide a more concrete solution.
