This is a Guy that works in our UK office. Carp fishing is Very big over there and this is one of his latest catches.....38 lbs. 4oz. Carp.

Put it back to swim another day....they treat Carp like gold across the pond

There are guys that take it very serious here too! They use the same gear and methods used across the big pond. There was at least two episodes on OTW with brothers who are like that. One of the ponds they were at is around the corner from me (actually several with big carp ponds close by).

Ya & they have started some Carp fishing club //<i,ve read a couple of articles & saw the OTW show on these guys . I,ve also read at least two articles on guys coming over here to fish for them // Whatever pulls ya rod ><><><:beat:

Is it just me or are those things just plain nasty looking? Man those things are butt ugly.

The MA record was caught right @ where I striper fish on the CT in the spring. I think it was over 40#. I typically snag about one a year by accident. They fight a lot better then they look like they would!:musc:

Down in South Florida, a type of Asian carp has been imported to thin the canals of weeds, etc. A friend in Ft Lauderdale discovered that these carp often go crazy over what is falling off the trees.

He tied flies that look like mullberries and caught carp above 15 pounds - on 4-wt and 6-wt flies. It's fun, once and a while.

You ever see many of those English women? No wonder they treat carp like gold!

it was an event

i cast upstream under the bridge at newton lower falls

with a heavy hook with a stinky home made doughball for bait.

a huge carp eats it on the third cast and proceeds down

river.... (this is in the charles river BTW)
so now i am totally thrilled and run
up the bank to the top of the bridge still running and passing
my rod around the front of the light poles while fighting it
trying to get to the other side thats better for landing a fish.

well...........
i was so damned excited i jumped over the railing a bit to early when
reaching the other side and went tumbling down the embankment
and just luckilly grabbing my rod before it got towed into the river.

it took awhile to reel that sucker back up to where a friend
of mine was waiting with a huge net... and he scoops up
the carp which was so freakin heavy it broke right thru the net
hit the water now un- hooked and swam away.... :wavey:

still one heck of a nice fish. wonder what kind of gear he was using?

tattoobob 11-27-2006 05:01 PM

Wow look at the belly on that thing, we fish for them here and get good sized ones but nothing that big. We go to Market basket and buy Market Basket Brand Quick oats and make balls and have a blast.

Bigcat 11-27-2006 05:38 PM

I was watching kids on the Charles River try to wack carp with sticks.
I think they got a few to.

afterhours 11-27-2006 05:42 PM

they fight like the striped ones.

Swimmer 11-27-2006 08:21 PM
