jim sylvester 11-28-2006 03:09 PM

729.00 mac

Pete_G 11-28-2006 03:10 PM

The 275 is already at '07 pricing. Everything else will go to the new pricing 1/1/07.

Sluggoslinger 11-28-2006 03:13 PM

Yup... I really wanted one too... I just can't spend that kind of money at the moment on it.

If anyone has a 150 with a bail that wants to sell after christmas, let me know!

Still hurts, but not as bad I guess...

MAC 11-28-2006 03:25 PM

Actually I have plans on getting one for next season. The thought of 779 scared me though.

Pete_G 11-28-2006 03:31 PM

The first production 275's just came in today for anyone interested in purchasing or taking a closer look at them.

fishpoopoo 11-28-2006 05:17 PM

shadow 11-28-2006 05:27 PM

see I heard it was going to be a $80 increase so now $50 sounds ALITTLE better not much but alittle.

lurch 11-29-2006 08:37 AM

Has the technology changed in the 100,150,200 and 250 reels? If the technology has not changed the price should stay the same or even drop.

Am i wrong??

I can understand the higher cost of the saltiga reels as they have new and possibly better components but if the components in the VS are the same why the higher cost???

BigFish 11-29-2006 08:40 AM

I am sure the cost of materials (metal) goes along way when pricing! For that much money you can keep them!:eek:

Aluminum or stainless I think=precious metals!

Clogston29 11-29-2006 08:45 AM

Gotta consider that they cater to a niche, high end market and can't price things low and make their profit in quantity. How many reels can they really sell in a given year? They last a long time too so they don't get as many repeat customers either.

Way to much. Guess it all depends on who you know.:devil:

VS200= $520
VS250= $560
VS275= $598
VS300= $607

Rockport24 11-29-2006 12:07 PM

that's a good point clog, and I don't think an extra $50 is going to sway anybody that is planning on spending $700+ on a reel.

vanstaal 11-29-2006 12:26 PM

pro & cons

VS reels in retrospect is no different than paying 20.+ dollars for a Habs plug I think the money we pay for a premium plugsis crazy but if that is what you want than u r going to pay for the good stuff. :bl:

This is Zebco/Quantum we're talking about. They sell more reels than anyone ;) Van Staal represents a very small fraction of their overall manufacturing, and they don't need a huge profit margain on them.

Charging what the market will bear is something else, and you can't blame a company for doing that. Let the market decide if they're overpriced.

Young Salt 11-29-2006 06:47 PM

how much do you think it costs to make those reels?

most fly reels are in the same boat....

wheresmy50 11-29-2006 07:23 PM

Pure guess not including overhead- somewhere around $150 assuming they do their own machining.

Another pure guess - management is looking for the ceiling of what people will pay. Zee Baas, Saltiga, Accurate must have the big wigs thinking whether or not they can get more.

Luxury items also sometimes have an upward sloping demand curve, meaning people buy more as the cost increases.

ChiefLinesider 11-29-2006 09:55 PM

Penn in VS clothing. On ebay.:topic:

Based on one guy's experience with the Accurate, they should be slashing the price on that one :humpty:

3 handle bushings in 2 years?? For 900 beans??? WTF?? :huh:

Maybe he got a lemon, but he's the only Accurate user I ever met.

NIB 12-01-2006 09:10 PM

I think it's a fair increase.
They have been the same price for more than a few yrs.
Those prices are what is suggested i'm pretty sure they have a limit to the bottom end. some guys can get them cheaper but they are not supposed to be sold at that rate..I'm pretty sure they run the risk of getting them pulled as a distributor if they sell em too cheap..
I'm lookin for a 300 anybody have one they want to sell...

With in the last year copper and aluminum has tripled in price maybe even more, I was turning in scrap copper and getting $3.50 a pound, turn in 100 pounds that's $350.00. for trash basically. so I can understand the cost increase. but that is why I have bought all mine used and saved a ton of money. A VS250B just sold for $150.00 on SOL 2 days ago.

FisherTim 12-01-2006 09:48 PM

I heard about the increase, so I got my 2nd vs yesterday while I could save the $50!!

I get chuckles out of Accurate's spinning product, but their offshore reels are second to none. :btu:
