ipod/mp3 player question (for technies)

hey guys, I need a techie-type person's help.
I have the comcast digital cable DVR thing in my house, I noticed how it has a USB connector and "smart card" connector. Is it possible to download recorded shows off the device and put them on say, an ipod video or the like? I've just read a bunch of reviews on the video ipod and it seems like it is not possible since it only supports a couple of types of video formats, but what about other players, like the ones from Creative that can play all kinds of video formats?
anyone ever try this with the comcast box?

Not sure but I think all has to be loaded in your library on your puter first and then transferred?? I could be wrong??:eyes:

yeah, I guess I would have to load it onto my computer.
I know you can do this with Tivo, but I was just wondering if it could also be done with the motorola box that comcast issues. I tried to do a little research and as far as I can tell, Tivo is the only one that has that capability.

Not on an Ipod.. Other players support more formats vs the Ipod. For an Ipod, U R Bound to their specific format for Videos and music..
As for downloading directly from TV, U will need to contact Comcast. The way which I download and transfer is via a Labtop... Download what ever movie you want via Window Media Player then converted to a file that your Player will understand... You should not have a problem recording TV shows using a PC.. Simply bring the cable into your supported video card on your PC.. download there then transfer to your Portable player. Good luck.. contact your cable provider if you have issues... :cputin:

What's the format it can output on the usb with?
jpg, mpeg?

both.. Jpeg, Gif are image files... MP3, Wave, etc (plus 3 to 4 others).. are Music Files and Mpeg is Videos.. There are actually a couple of other Video format extension that will work with all portable players except Ipod. But, I can not for the life of me think of them at this time.
All these files can be read by a Window base PC plus devices such as MP3 and MP4 players (portable Music and Video Devices)...And these file can be easily transfer from one device to another via USB, Firewire, or WiFi (wireless Internet)
