Alrighty....I have a rod that used to be a two piece, and for the past three months has been a one piece.....I can't get the sucker apart....till now, it was no big deal, but since I have to travel to OBX soon, the wife and dog won't be happy with this javelin in the truck....

Tried WD-40 soak.....icing the ferrel and heating the receiving end, pulling, tugging, and it is still stuck.....

Ideas????????

Other than that I can't really help you Steve, got quite a few metal ferruls apart with WD-40. If you can put pressure on one part of the joint and roll it without cracking it it might work. I sometimes get buckets apart by putting my foot halfway down the overlap and rolling them under my foot.

better than a one piece rod becoming a two piece rod.

Trying something different...some advise from elsewhere.....it involves soap and water, (something about the wife and the bathtub......;)).........will let ya know how I make out....

Traditionally , a stuck rod can be separated by sitting down. put the rod behind your legs. Grab the two rod pieces near the stuck ferrel with something like the rubber pads you use to get a jar open. Now use you legs muscles to force your hands and arms apart.

Can't help....but can tell you that if you do get the sucker unstuck, wax the male end before re-inserting to avoid getting stuck again. I use parafin wax or Ivory soap.....works nice....

If the rod is large enough diameter, maybe you can get a strap wrench on it. Sears carries them, damn handy and it might give you the twisting power you need.

Try heating some water and poaring it over the ferral.....increase the temprature a little at a time. Don't just pull, twisting might be easier! Good luck!!!

Well, I put some liquid soap on it and let it sit overnite. Used the rubber pads as Saltheart suggested, and it was tough, but I was finally able to twist it a bit, and then it came apart. :)

The best way I have found to get two round things apart eg. two piece windsurfing mast is to use those new soft wrenches that wrap around and cinch down on what you are tring to loosen. Put one on each end close to the joint and twist in oposite directions. Guaranteed to come apart. Good luck. Copy the link below to see the tool I mean at sears.com.

Be careful about using tools designed to twist the rods. A very , very slight twist (like 10 or 15 degrees you might get away with but too much twist and the rod can break do to torsion. The rods are very strong in bending but the fiber layers are not layed up to resist torsion. Don't over do it.

If you use this tool make sure you attach them right at the joint to concentrate the forces at that spot. I have never tried it on a fishing rod but it works well on carbon fiber masts that have similar bending characteristics. I would, however, defer to Salthart's opinion based on his because his experience. Good luck.
