Rob I am not sure about the kits, but go for it. Making your own rods has many benefits. I would look for someone to give you some lessons. I had someone show me the ropes years ago and I make all my stuff and rods for others also. I then signed up with rodbuilders workshop, in Kingston, to learn all the fnacy warapping techniques. A one time fee of $150.00 gets you lessons for a lifetime, Smitty's lifetime. He just fought off throat cancer, so he is still at it. I like St. Croix blanks. Have a fly rod I made with one and it the best casting of the bunch.

Thanks for the imput, i think i will get one. It has the wrapper and dryer, and a bunch of other stuff. Im sure its going to be a bit of trial and error. Swimmer, i wish i lived closer to Kingston or any other place closer to the salt to take a lesson, my uncle took one at Rivers end in old saybrook and he learned a lot but it isnt possible so it will be reading manuals and checking posts for tips.

If you have any rods laying around your basement that are collecting dust, cut the old guides off and practice re-wrapping them.
Trial and error can be learned on rods you dont really care about. It will make your new rod that much sweeter when your done. Good luck |
Mudhole has the new fuji Lc guides there made specially for super braids.A 13ft.rod with these guides can cast quite a distance.
