Sluggoslinger 12-31-2006 09:47 AM

If you don't trust the guys you have with you on the boat, don't leave the keys in if you go to piss off the back...

tattoobob 12-31-2006 10:03 AM

#1 thing I learned in 06 is: don't have your pictures on the bait shop walls with cows, when talking to people on the beach keep tight lips about your catches.

A couple of other things, Don't go to the ocean with undersized gear this is a sure fire way of losing a good fish, the same gear used for sand is not the same gear you use in the rocks,

Don't panic when you have a big fish on, alot of fish are lost due to poor decisions when a fish is hard fighting and taking you to school.

To do the same things I did in '06.;)

Happy New Year everyone:usd:

I need to get out and fish more

RickBomba 12-31-2006 12:34 PM

Tony, that's awesome, now can you teach Rappin Mikey that?

The Dad Fisherman 12-31-2006 12:57 PM

Finally figured out the eel thing.....was never really fishing them right before this year.

also learned that running to a 10 minute blitz of schoolies isn't worth ending up in the Doctors office over

GattaFish 12-31-2006 01:23 PM

swimming in november is not to bad until you get out,,,, unintentionally of course....

That I don't have to carry every plug I own to catch fish, in fact I am better off to carry a few and use them well.

vanstaal 12-31-2006 02:40 PM

do take the spot for granted what we do is very dangerous accedents happen in the blink of a eye !be safe everyone.

I would have to say, that I learned always save your left over sand eels and keep them on ice. Even if you don't get to fish for a few days afterward. You never know when the sand eel run is going to run dry, and it's always good to have some, even if they stink and are falling apart a little..it might be the difference between you being the only one on the beach catching anything or getting skunked like everyone else :hee:

You only asked for one thing
Remember some guys are indecisive and can't figure out the one thing.
Some are so smart they learned nothing.

chris L 12-31-2006 04:09 PM

the one thing i have learned is larry is pushing life

no no really the one thing so far is 06 is no more

luds 12-31-2006 04:53 PM

I learned how much I would love to have a digital camera with me but it's just one more thing too carry. Even when I fished with someone who had one we were too lasy to go back to our gear to get it.:smash:

Hopefully I'll get a few nice ones close to the truck this season.

GoFish 12-31-2006 05:27 PM

Flatten my barbs when only small fish around.

Rigged Slug-Gos.

OK, did I win those lurker plugs yet?

pbadad 12-31-2006 05:29 PM

Fish closer to home. Found out the fish were holding bait in estuaries that I was driving over on my way to "my" fishing destinations.

That reminds me. I learned how great it was to have a digital camera that was easy to keep with me. I got a Pentax Optio waterproof and a Chubs lanyard. The lanyard goes around my neck and the camera goes in my shirt pocket. I don't even notice that it's there.

I got lots of good shots that I would have missed if my camera was buried in my tackle bag.

Sounds awsome. One of my fishing partners did get a waterproof camera for this season.

Amen... and always carry a nip of "get the f--- away from me" :hihi:

Canalman 12-31-2006 06:23 PM

The big thing I learned this year has to do with fishing rough water. And the reason I learned it was becuase I stopped listening to other people, who told me that it was "too rough" or "not worth it". Had a few nights this year where I would ordinarily have gone home and went back to bed.. One night really sticks out. Got to the spot with F18 there was a guy there I know... he was walking back and said, "I didn't even take a cast... way to rough." Well he was right about the too rough part because after I got on my rock I was forced backwards while my korkers slid like skates across the rocks... the surges went from dry rock to waiste deep white water.. somehow I stayed on my feet :uhoh:... I changer position and took a cast BANG fish on... next cast another. There were rollers coming in that looked like the beginning of Hawaii 5-0 but the fish were there heavy. Had several fish from 20 to almost 30#... F18 broke off one that had to go much higher. This basically means that I'll be risking my life more often next year:musc:
