Sinking plugs (What wood)

I wanted to make some sinking plugs. Wanted to have them sink slow & weigh in at around 2.0 oz. What wood would you suggest using. They would be around 6-7 inches. I was planning on using Western Pine. But after more research I was thinking I was going to have to add too much weight for it to sink.

Any suggestions?

What Salty said, but be sure to seal it well (overnight) or else maple will split.
