Commandments of surfcasting???

In another thread Krispy mentions 2 of the commandments of surfcasting. what are the 10 commandments of surfcasting? I have never heard of this before. He says 2 of them are plugging durring the day and topwater fishing. What is wrong with that? I fish topwater alot more than I used to and also fished more during the daytime light hours last year than ever before. Am I getting old or something? I know that the best chances at large are by going at night but not always, lots of times the bass blitz during the day also.
Anybody???

Anybody???

The "10 Commandments" are not actually 10, and are just my BASIC tenents to finding larger fish. Its what should have been pounded into all our heads a millions times by now.
Every year I learn a little more and become a little better. I've been lucky to have alot of really good fishermen pass along alot of great info. Its whats repated to us over and over.
My Commandments for big fishing:

1. Fish at night
2. Fish the bottom
3. Fish eels
4. Fish big fish spots
5. Fish big fish gear
6. Fish the rule, not the exception
7. Keep your mouth shut
8. Structure; current

Though shall show me the slips or other evidence of my catch.

Goose 01-09-2007 03:03 PM

1. Bring the right gear.
2. Use fresh line/terminal tackel
3. Use fresh bait.
4. Don't fish with more then one partner if possible(your odds go up)
5. Learn how to catch & keep your bait.*
6. Limit your plug selection....carry less weight.
7. Water and snack a must.
8. Find your own spots/think out of the box.
9. Don't depend on your partner, be prepared.
10. Fish with confidence*

Commandment #11 - Thou shalt believe

Pete_G 01-09-2007 03:56 PM

It's funny you should mention "best chances for large are by going at night" but then add "not always" because I was talking with several people about it just a couple days ago.

Fish topwaters (or other plugs) during the day on a cloudy day when there's a full moon at night. Seriously. I'm far from alone on that one. Even clear days in the morning and evening it works. This isn't a schoolie technique or chasing birds, it's throwing big plugs where the big fish are likely to be.

This applies more in the spring and fall then the summer though.

Even when the moon is dark at night I don't completely rule out the daytime, but yeah, as a general rule night time is the right time.

12. Thou shalt pay close attention to when and where he catches big fish so he can repeat it in the future.

BigFish 01-09-2007 03:56 PM

I don't believe Krispy catches big fish...I never see any pics or slips?:laughs: :bl: :rtfm:
