No excuse for some boaters
This weekend was a vivid reminder just how inconsiderate some boaters can be. During Saturday's bluefish blitz, I had a least 3 boats come motoring right on top of a school of blues I was working and start casting, even thou their own stupidity put them down the minute they motored on top of them. I'm not saying a school I'm working is my own private school, but to just motor right alongside and through the school is nuts.
Then yesterday my son just had to have one last shot at some stripers, so we launched in the North River to give it a try for an hour or so. I'm fishing a narrow channel that cuts through a sand bar that most large boats wouldn't even try to use at that tide. I've got him drifting a live eel behind the boat as we work our way out the channel. Along comes a 25 footer and right across his line, passing within 20 feet of our boat. I tried waving him to slow down to give us a chance to get the line in and I know he saw the warning. I gave him a piece of my mind as I cranked down the drag to break off the line and his return comment was it's a channel. No sorry, just tough **it buddy. First of all I'm not under power and had the trolling motor down, so that gives me the right of way. But this clown could have given me 2 minutes and the line would have been out of his way. I hope the 20 feet of 30# spiderwire he picked up in his props does a number on his seals, that will teach him a lesson. I've had idiots run over my lines at least 3 or 4 times and they all look at me like I'm doing something wrong. Jerks like that should be loaded into a freighter, along with all the jet ski operators and sent on a very long boat ride. These are probably the same jerks that cut you off in rush hour traffic to gain that 1 minute on their ride to work. Just burns my butt that people don't even pay attention or give a damn for others out on the water. Tight lines, hope everyone had a good weekend. |
RE:No excuse for some boaters
Ah, yes, the wonderful world of boating...and those damn jet skis!!! Yes, the yahooability factor is high out there on the wild blue sea!!! We were fishing the WICC tourney a few weeks back, we're knocking down the last hour of the tournament with 4 lines out of the boat, when this jet ski with two guys on it come flying by within 10-15 feet of the boat, across lines, and doing donuts alongside. This prompts spontaneous, massive, and some would say profane language for our boat, directed at these PWC morons... To make a short story long, they continue to do donuts right along side the boat ot irk us. Our fearless leader, having just been spooled by a very heavy bass, channeled his frustation at these jetski jockeys by throwing mushy, previously frozen bunker and bunker chum at these baywatch wannabees... There should be laws that these people remain chained in their atics instead of out on PWC, running around anchored boats as if they were cones on a slalom course....

RE:No excuse for some boaters
Yeah John how do you like those Jetski guys? Last season, there were no big bunker in my area. Our only hope of catching fish was finding peanut bunker. This is in my old spot. So this school of baby bunker is coming along the beach and I'm watching them come around. You can see them darting back and forth because bass or blues were chasing them. Somehow they make it out of the crook of the fake jetty and they are heading right past me. It was early morning, I was the only guy out there. I have my peanut bunker snagging rig on.(a 3/0 treble with a light egg sinker). Out of nowhere, a jetskier comes flying up on the school, runs a donut right around them. The peanuts split and the guy drives off. He was clearly there to disturb the fish. God it irked me.
We also have guys in expensive boats that anchor within casting range. One night I was like, "I could hit that guy, I know I could" and this woman starts chewing off my ear about something or another. She is my bud's wife so I just nodded her along. Good God. I swear if it wasn't for sex and cooking I would never talk to women.(Kidding kidding, honest, I'm kidding) Patrick |
RE:No excuse for some boaters
Does that really screw up the seals? (I am not very knowledgeable on boat motors) I am thinking back to when I first tried out my new gear and some "you-know-what" snagged my line...it was VERY obvious that it was there (unless you are blind) luckily I had my knife handy and was quick to let the line fly, meanwhile praying that my hard earned $300+ wasn't going into the drink!!! But after reading that post it sure put a smile on my face!!!! Thank you for a happy thought!! <img src="/Images/Happy_Face.gif"><!--e1-->
