rod suggestions
 

I just picked up a couple penn 320 GTi 's on ebay. Was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for a rod selection for a mostly trolling occassional jigging setup... not looking to break the bank.

not bad... this is my first fishing purchase all winter... I held out pretty long.

If you are talking about wire line jigging than you need to get carbide guides or the wire will burn right through regular fuji guides. For everything esle I would recomend the daiwa sealine rods. The MH 7' rod is a great rod. It has a soft tip but tons of power in the butt section. It is a perfect tube and worm rod. If you do want to wire line jig than I would recomend the Ocuma Tailwalkers for cheap money or if you want a higher end rod get the CMS wire rod. The CMS rod is sweet.

My 330 GTIs are on Ugly sticks, about 80 bucks and if you break it, send it back and they send you a new one.
They are about 6 footers.
If you want the model, I have to pull them down and get it.

seems like someone else is getting bigger gear......I wonder what you are planning on doing?

My 320 is on a penn mariner rod.

by the way, what did you pay for them, each?

plus a couple more lines out a little deeper can't hurt either.

they are from texas.... nice and oiled up when they came in the mail.

now if i only could decide on a couple rods.

what do you think... one wire one leadcore?

up to you. I don't really use either. RR or bigJay or FF might be better for suggestions.

Lead-core is fine on a wire rod, but you can't use wire on regular guides. With that in mind, I would go for a pair of wire capable rods - it will give you more flexibility down the road.

The Daiwa Sealine wire line rod may be a good choice. They are 6'6" have fuji guides and reelseat, and a slickbutt (very nice feature). They retail for about $90. For the price, they are an excellent value. I think we have 6 - good jigging action, good with the tubes, and work for rigs as well. All around good rods.

For other production price point rods - the Tsunami wire rod is nice (more guides than most rods its length) and the Star Aeriel series is okay too, but the stiffest of the group.

I second the Lami BT857S. A true classic. I wrapped 2 last fall and a reasonably priced blank $57 or so. After It is all wrapped about $130 to build total and you can put whatever colors you can imagine;)

The Diawa Sealine is a great wireline rod, and can be used for leadcore, braid etc. A little unconventional, but on our charter's we put Penn 330's on them with wire. The levelwind minimize's rookie mistakes with the wire and the tri-angle shaped front grip makes it an easier rod to handle for kids, ladies, etc. We also put a roller tip on top. The tsunami rod is a great one as well, especially for the price.

thats why i went with the 320's, i have some friends that would benefit from the levelwind.

I think the diawa sealine makes the most sense for what I want to do... Most versatile it seems.

it seems that most would benefit from the levelwinds. It never fails that when someone catches something big, there are some that always forget to control the line. urrrrrrrgggg
