Depends...

Ours have no backs, which helps in a tight space, plus the little one can't flip them over. They weigh a ton whatever kind of wood they're made from. Some cheap tropical hardwood probably.

If you're going to have older adults sitting and such, backs might help.

if you plan on eating there definately go with the backs.. your spine will be happy you did
