Saltiga 4500 question
Greetings,
A question regarding the Saltiga 4500 size reel. Basically, how big is it? I have read all of the specs but I was wondering if someone could give me a comparison to another reel as to size. Is it bigger or smaller than a 704, in between a VS150 and VS200, the same size as other Daiwa 4500 size reels like the Capricorn?. Just looking for some dimensional feedback as I have never seen one. Thanks |
They are kinda small IMO for a surf outfit. Then again lots of guys fsh 150 an 200 size VS. I really have no use for anthing in that size.I would have to say Slightly larger a Shimano 4000 size spinner. If ur familiar with that..

There are a few guys who use the 4500 for surf fishing. Crazy Al, Kadir and Tattoo all use it, I think.
It's a little thin for mono, but it'll hold enough 50# braid to get the job done. It probably holds more line than a 6500 size Abu or Calcutta 400, and plenty of people use those for a variety of surf applications. |
I have a z4000 and z4500. They are the exact same reel, except the 4000 spool holds a little less line. For surf, I use 40-50# braid on them, and they hold about 275yds, respectively. If you were going to use mono of 20# or less, I would suggest the 4500. If you need more capacity for larger mono, maybe go up to the 6000 size.Physically, the reel is about the size of a 650 penn.

The Saltiga Z4500 is definitely not too small to be a main surf reel. I've fished a 4500 & 4000 for 3 years now and they are very powerful reels that hold plenty of line. I had a VS200 before the 4500 and I'd say they are just about the same size - except the 4500/4000 weighs about 2 ounces less. The internal gears and parts on the Saltigas are designed and manufactured to be very strong and have high tolerances for power, torque, and durability - and they are very smooth as well. They are designed as offshore big game reels - if that tells you anything about the reels.

Well that would be ur Opinion.. Like i said too small for me.. I guess thats why they make so many different size reels. I have one in the 5000 size i agree they are super reels nothing like em on the market if u ask me. I think they should make something in between the 4000 series bodies an the 5000 series bodies. The bigger reels are way to heavy to fish the surf with. |
