Neither would happen. Currently many drugs that are not profitable (like vaccines, or something like anti-malaria drug) are subsidized by either our govern. or private foundations (think the Bill Gates foundation). Vaccines aren't profitable and 2 years ago we ran short because there wasn't enough - the few drug companies who make them didn't want to overproduce and be stuck with unsold product. Thus in a bad flu year, there wasn't enough.
The US govern. would save billions upon billions if cancer was wiped out.
(Now if we were talking about a simple fuel additive that would help get cars 200 MPGs, I know that there would be a conspiracy by the oil companies to bury it.)
