any bait around?

has anybody been getting any live bait consistantly? i was wondering if anyone has seen any bait off wallaston beach ? how about the mackeral out at b-bouy?

fishsmith 07-10-2002 09:31 AM

I tried jigging with a sabiki rig for over an hour yesterday outside marshfield and not even a nibble, i think the arrival of the blues has sent the live bait running.

Mr. Kav 07-10-2002 10:15 AM

yes , i am hopping that the blues chased the bait into the back bays

Mr. Kav

I have been looking up in the bay.
I check that spot each time out :D
still no herring or small blues up there.

with the blues around(I got one two week back)quincy bay the bait should be around there soon.

Macks have been hard to find.
Harbor pollock are all over the place outside.

For fun I have been trolling dead macks on lead core with a two hook wire rig getting BIG blues outside

If I see the herring around I will l let you know:D

ASA tournament in the harbor this weekend.

So your using a tandem rig with dead mac's huh? that is great i think i might try that next time i go out. i still have a bunch of herring so i will try with them. good idea to use the two hooks i hate getting back half the bait, you can't even use it again other for a chunck bait. how deep do you think your running these baits? Is it just random fish or is it some what consistant on the big blues? i would assume that there should be some blues out by b-bouy around now.
thanks for your reply

I'd bet any deep diving lure will get the blues out by the b-buoy down to minots.
Mr Kav, you might already do this, but I'd throw out a whole herring by the b-buoy and jig for mack/pollack in the same spot, 15 years ago when the stripers were not around, we'd jig for mackeral out there, and cook em up back at the dock.

fishsmith,

i usually do have at least one deep diver going when i am trolling those sabiki rigs around trying to find some mac's for live-lining. i think i will troll both out there this weekend and see what happens, i will let you know how i made out.

I agree about the tandem hooks, this is what happened to me with live pollack yesterday..

Mr. Kav 07-12-2002 01:12 PM

You should be getting em around the Brewsters, entice the school of baitfish with some chum. I've been pretty successful so far. Good luck.
