Is anybody even considering going out this weekend to fish for . . .
. . . cod?
I've got the fever just as bad as the next guy and I'm thinking of pulling the cover off the boat, loading it up and going off say 5-10 miles and try and catching whatever might bite my clam rig. Might there be anything out there? Is anyone even going out this time of year? I know the turn to spring is definitely on. The temps are getting higher, the snow is melting under the strengthening sun. I have clams in the freezer and just want to run the boat. |
do it..
look for keeper cod arround the 100' humps. |
I know the Frances Fleet has been finding some cod around Block Island and the Viking boat (Montauk) found some on cox's ledge.
Might be a lot more comfotable to jump on a head boat at this time of year. |
Are the regs still 2 per person? When do they change, April 1st?
|
go out on the helen h. He knows where they are.
|
and leave the driving to them.....
|
I just have to get out, even if it is only just off the beach in the boat. Just to hook up the trailer and drive the thing around. Just to hear the motor run again after only 3 months of layup. To stick some clam on and drop it down and wait would be worth it to me.

hey.... what happened to seeing the birthing of your new boat?
surely it hasn't come to term yet? |
No, it has not come to term yet, it is still in the first trimester. The bracket for the outboard was put on today and they are dropping in the liner tommorw and I should have new pictures sometime this week and I'll be sure to share.
I have a boat I repowered last May. Just have to take the cover off of it, put the batteries in it, some lines and an anchor, rods and I'm off. So long as it doesn't snow up north with this new storm coming Thurs./Fri. and I don't go snowmobiling and it isn't too messy on Saturday and Sunday, I'll try going out. It is all I can do. |

|
Saturday looks like it is going to be nice. Not sure about the wind though. I was planning on dropping in my newly purchased skiff to get a feel for it before the fishing starts. How close do Cod come in this time of year? I remember catching one off the Scituate coastline a few years back on a spoon.
|
Yes... in VA Beach!
|
I was out this past November and was catching them not 2-3 miles off the shore. A lobster boat came up in late Nov. and the Cap'n threw us a 30" cod that was in one of his traps.

I would go outta green harbor and fish high pines, I have done very well there at the end of march early april, so my guess is they are there now.
|
Fished Sunday day & last nite >>>>>>>>> Looks like another trip tomorrow ><><><:boots:
|
Ummmm this is interesting, Ive never caught Cod intentionally. With that said any special lures, jigs, etc? I was going to take my J16 out in Duxbury Bay for a shake down but dropping in Green Harbor and heading down to High Pines and dropping a line sounds better. We'll see how the weather is.
|
evening trip today ><><><

A 6oz crippled herring should do ya good. Thats all you will need in that water. You can jig with one rod and have a clam rig on the bottom with the other.
