SuperLube or Vaseline
Time to pack a couple reels, some if only to quiet the clicker. Did a search and not much discussion on this. What do you use to grease, lube and oil your reels? Any new products? Pros? Cons?
Thanks |
Vaseline and 3 and 1 oil makes the reels "butter smooth", but I don't reccomend using that in the extreme heat of the summer as you may get some leakage. I'll be trying some superlube on other reels this year as well.

Superlube. You can buy 1 lb tins of it as grease, and they have little liquid pens of it for oil (but I use 3 in 1 if I'm not on the beach).
And remove the GD clicker! |
superlube works good. Doesn't get as messy as vasoline in the heat of summer.
Surfcaster grease works fine for me
I mightb be crazy but I have been using lithium grease. White stuff comes in a 1lb tub.
ive been using light machine grease, and lithium.
I use super lube but you can use KY. sup Ross

I feel like I need a barrel of vaseline this week.
I am guessing you are talking about a 704z or another one in that family. I pack mine with superlube and it does the job for awhile but is there any way to completely remove that clicking noise and still have an antireverse?
anyone ever try KY jelly ?

Riverrat, I prefer mine without the anti-reverse. Allows you to "backpedal" a lure in the wash. Back and forth as you sidestep down the beach with a swimmer. The anti reverse is your left hand.
I have had very good luck using Superlube. I use it on everything. What I like about it is that dirt dosen't seem to stick to it. I use on Guns, Reels,Stormwindows and doors, i even use it indoor door hinges and locks. JMO

Ya I have tried it without the antireverse, I really can't get used to it, I rarely fish plugs with this reel. Its my eel setup and when I setup on a fish the anti-reverse comes in handy even if it is just a back up in case your hand slips or something like that.
I used the surfcaster grease, didn't like it much it dosen't seem to like saltwater, I switched to Penn reel lube seems ok so far but I haven't opened the reels yet this winter
Don't use vaseline it will melt in summertime. Not a problem I suppose if it's sealed tight but they usually aren't.
I packed my 704 greenie w/ super lube. was alright until Nov. then the anti-reverse went, grease got really heavy when cold and held the dog back. I for one am going to relearn to love the sound of a clicker this season.
Anyone ever try marine bearing grease? I was going to try that next.
