Can I use my Baitrunner...

Can I use my Shimano Baitrunner 6500 on a boat rod? Reason I ask is I just spent all this money on the reel and a 9' rod but my buddy and I just decided to buy an 18' Starcraft boat. So the 9' rod is obviously useless to me but I was wondering about the reel, will it be too heavy?

Very excited about the boat, can't wait to get it in the water and go to all the good spots in the harbor.

Short Answer....yes, I use mine, and I know Mr.KAv has one or two he uses as well......in fact, they are GREAT for chunking from a boat......set the Baitrunner drag in free spool, and off ya go.....

Thats what I did when I bought my boat. switched all my surf reels over to boat poles. It may not be the perfect set up but it will work until I can start spending again;)
