Grand Cherokee Front Rod Rack????
I have a '97 Grand Cherokee and I bought a nice rod carrier for the front. Does anyone know how to mount this with none (or very little) damage to the bumper. The bumper seems to be a composite with a piece of steel only on the inside. If anyone has mounted a carrier on a Jeep Gr.Cher. your help would be appreciated.. Thanks

Front liscence plate area. It looks like it should bolt right up. Ask Chris L. he has the same one.

I dont know if you have the same problem or not....
the license plate area worked fine on the truck....but not on the 4runner....the way the bumper is designed doesnt allow for an easy "bolt it and go" situation.....:( |
Not me ! Mine is home made attached by bolts thru a metal bumper on a pickup truck . Like Specialist said try the plate area . There really isnt a whole lot of areas to bolt on with that type of bumper .

Hi Striper,
Hey you still don't have that thing mounted yet. If I remember correctly looking at your bumper, you will have to drill. I think there was a gap between your plastic fender and that steet plate located behind it. I think the easiest way is to find some long mounting bolts, drill through the plastic bumper and the steel plate, but do all the support on the plate. then bolt the bolts (threaded side of the bolt forward, secure a nut to the other side of the plate) after that you can place a another bolt outside the plastic bumper to support the rack....This way you are not cranking down on the plastic fender, all the weight will be on the metal plate... I hope this makes some sense.....If not give me a call... |
