No it was before the bottle darter. Before u got sick..U had just lost
a bunch of weight..U had Ur plugs on the table an u where selling em.
I also got a short fat one that day the one I got the fish on was about 7 inches. An sorta fat.
Thumb Alina.no it was not that day.
It was a day in the week that i will remember for the rest of my life.
It was a Tuesday,On Wednesday all hell broke loose.
I had just got out of work early like 3 pm an was snooping around when I got a phone call my friend was down the road.Where I suggested we meet. When i got there he was already out an hooked up.The bait had the bunker corralled up an coming in to wards the jetty.
I got down there an caught 1or 2 fish nice fish. Then it got quite.
Like the lull before the storm..When all of the sudden all hell broke loose it was like 4th of July on the water.Big bass where just exploding on the bunker they where pinned an where flying up on the jetty to avoid certain death. My friend got a 45 lber on a underhand cast. They where every where hundreds of em right at our feet.Pounding an thrashing for a good ten mins. When it settled we still had em by ourselves for a good 90 mins..
This particular jetty u can see from the road so it did not take long for the crowd to build..Then it got crazy out there till dark.Seemed like there was 100 guys out there. It was kinda rough an high.I was hooking em an cranking em in an winging em up on the rock pile with the surge of the wave.Unbutton em an toss em back.30 lb fish one after another. As fast as I could for 4 plus hrs.
This went on every morning an evening for the rest of the week. For the most part.It got kinda crazy, on the rock piles at least u had guys with some smarts. When they hit the sand it was deadly..Any one with a fishing pole was down there winging lures of every type.'
One Mexican guy was fishing next to my buddy when he was fighting a fish as the fish showed in the surf line the Mexican dropped his rod an ran into the surf an dove on my friends fish.He had to explain to him it was his fish as it had his plug connected to his rod..The Mexicans wanted the fish to eat they would chase the released ones into the surf in effort to grab em..
On Saturday There was a torrential downpour with lightning.I mean it was raining cats an dogs well they showed up again an there was a club tourney going on.
There had to be at least 30 guys all with the big rods right in the middle of this bad lightning storm.I don't know how none of us got killed. One bolt would have knocked out 2 fishing clubs an there would have been one hell of a fish fry as the rock pile was lined with bass.
None of us left..Fisherman will also risk certain death when the day of a lifetime comes upon us..This went on for a good three weeks after that just not as consistantly. I was out every morning an every evening.U could kinda figure where they where gonna be by the wind direction.U had to pick the right spot as they would move a mile or so to the north or south. With north being the general direction.I think it was one long stream of bait like a river. The fish would binge feed then sleep it off on he off shore rocks an wake up an eat again. There where days they never made it into the shore.most yrs in fact the boaters are the ones that did most of the damage. This has been going on for at least 4 yrs down here since the reduction boats where kicked out. There was only a small handfull of us that where on em.
It's really getting out of hand though.Full on Braveheart Battlefield conditions..
It's always a lets see what happens this yr.
Only time will tell.

Great story Tony ... Nice to be alone with the fish trying to figure it out ,, I was wondering thru the whole thing if a crowd had gathered offering suggestions .. I had a guy jump down once , pull down on the line reaching for the fish and the hook just fell out the button hole ... Looked huge swimming away ,,,,, nice the catch included Mac too ...

Huuggghhhfff.
I can feel my stomach twist.I'm guessing this guy is/was a friend of urs..
I will usually get my own fish.Unless absolutely neccesary.
I remember watching one of my friends trying to gaff a mid twenties size fish.Whack, whack, whack.I was laughin my arse off.I thanked him for reminding me to do it myself..

Tony...good read...I knew you could do it! :usd:

Your giving me some scary(or should I say happy) falshbacks!

I know what you mean about landing your own fish. I don't need no one to run down into the surf or down into the rocks to hit or grab my fish. They get severely scorned if they do that. Years ago my buddy was washing up a big bass when a guy came out of no where and grabbed the line and started pulling, my buddy yelled at the top of his lungs...of course the great fish came off...and I remeber to this day my buddy dropping his rod in the sand and chasing the guy down the beach with his waders on. It was prolly the first time I pissed my waders. :rotfl:
