What makes a great Canal rod?

I see posts which mention " a great canal rod". What makes a canal rod?

I had 2 of them and they were too light for me. If you want to jig I would go with a 1209 AllStar, Lami 126MH or in glass a Lami 121 3M or a 136 4M cut back to 10'.

If you want to plug, the best plugging stick is a 1322 Arra IMHO

Good for metal. Decent for plugs. Not so great for jigs. But you can get by with it. I'd say 4 oz is about as much as it can handle comfortably.

If you got to go 2 piece , the 1266 is a good choice. I like the Arra 1205 for the canal. I currently fisdh a century tip tornado I made for the canal. Casts like crazy. Maybe a little to heavy for most of the fish but good on a big one. All around the Ara 1205 is more fishable.

1209 has the backbone, but you won't feel a small fish much. I don't really care about that personally. My arra 1205 is spinning and I much prefer conventional with more than 4 ozs and braid. However, I bet the 1205 as a conventional would be about perfect.

Knowing how to use it.

My Arra 1205 is conventional with the BG 7000CL and 50 LB spectron. Works well.
