Time Machine..
so you get a chance to take a ride in a time machine to go fishing. where and when would you go? .....you get to take your gear.
|
From my "era" most certainly 2 years ago during the October mayhem at the Canal. Caught the last end of it and it was STILL amazing!
|
1st: Cutty / Westport / Vineyard - Anytime in the 1800s
2nd: I'd settle for an evening or two of the Snowstorm Blitz on B.I. |
23,000,000 BC
there HAD to be some NEAT chit to catch back then |
3 years ago the end of the 2nd week in June on an easy to get to island
|
1680....wasn't that when John Smith wrote about the rivers being so full of bass you could walk on them? Salmon, codfish, halibut, swordfish, tuna, salters...all untouched....boggles the mind.
|
1977-1978 (or, right up to 81-2, if I could get greedy) right where I'm at now.
and I can bring todays gear!.. Nice... :humpty: :humpty: |
1940's Florida Keys fishing with Jimmy Albright :D
|
At least 200 years ago ... but must be on a day when the action is super hot, stripers going crazy and large ... and there are no hostiles of any sort in the area to cause trouble ... as I want to jettison in and out at will with my big fish, just enough so no one sees me.
I'd also go back to the Florida keys at least a 100 years or so with a flats skiff and guide on a high sun, southeast breeze at 5 mph, low mosquitos and lots of tarpon, permit and bonefish to nail on fly ... bring back some permit for my buddy to make permit ceviche ... it's awesome ... :beat: |
go back in time stop being a stupid PIA kid and fish more with my Dad....dont even care if I caught any fish

Cretaceous Period. Outgoing tide.
http://www.okc.cc.ok.us/biologylabs/...aceousfish.jpg Catch something like that |
The first year my brother came to the Vineyard with me, whenever that was.
|
First that came to mind was the night Tony S got his 73, I'd like to have been on that beach that night bailing 40 pounders and bigger.
But I am with Bob Thomas I think, the day on the canal a year and a half ago , I think it was a Wed., I missed it by one day. I would have loved to have been there that day instead of working in my shop and feeling like I was missing something. :wall: Back in 1620 sounds good too :uhuh: |
July 26th 1978, full moon, ground fog, Monomoy Island with #^^^^& Pleska and Bennie Mastro. 10 foot white 3m Lami, 20 pound Ande pink and a 704 with 7" blue windcheater rebel.
Best night I ever had. |
Late 50's/early 60's......running the backside beaches in a 1948 Woody wagon with the likes of Frank Woolner, Arnold Laine, Ralph Gray, Stan Gibbs, Charlie Murat.......the list goes on and on!
Oh.....and I would have to have a supply of my plugs from today! (Picture me in a black and White photo standing by my buggy yet the plugs in the photo are in color?) Play Twilight Zone theme song!:laugha: |
I'd set the time machine for October 12, 1981 and beam myself and my truck to South Beach on the Vineyard, down towards Tisbury Great Pond.
Then'd I set it for the following week and aim myself at Pochet. |
October 9 1999.....a backside beach, with my pal Bob Hunter
30-40# fish for hours till our arms were falling off.... Then lying in the sand laughing like little girls.....not believing what just happened a night that will be hard to beat......and worth the ride on the time machine |
Cutty back in the day with the big boys of industry. Catching cows and schmoozing with the rich and famous. Or a couple years ago in august at the canal when things broke loose for me.

I'm goin with Mike  |
Summer 1985 Somewhere in cape cod bay (anywhere between Minots ledge, the Race or outside the Canal) with my dad in his boat fishing or pulling his set of six lobster traps.
|
It'd be pretty fun to go way back and do some shark fishing for a Megladon.
I'd love to go back to when I could be on a stick boat for swordfish right off the cape. Tuna fishing in the 50's would be pretty amazing also. If you could get em with a hand line, imagine how well some flouro would be. That would be a great way to get my first! |
I would go back to the late 50's and fish the outerbanks with my grandparents. I never got the chance to fish with my grandmother beyond me with a snoopy rod. We have some movies they took the first few years they went down there when there was basically nothing but a gas station where the village of Avon is now.
Edit: I chose this based on the premise that I am the only one that gets on the time machine. If I can choose people to go with me it would be different. I just don't want to go back to 1368 by myself :) |
On Block to fish the Snow blitz, musta been awsome.
|
A certain area of a certain beach on the outter Cape June 28, 2005, 7:00am. I really can't imagine if it could get too much better then that. Beautiful, warm, sunny, calm, acres of big stripers rolling around from my feet to 100yrds out and a 1/4 mile in either direction. My brother decided to sleep in that morning.:laughs:
|
I also might go back with a little cash and buy a little bit of real estate if thats allowed.
|
The evening of Sept.21,1982 - Atlantic City N.J. Vermont Ave T-Jetty - ;)

I'd go back to Sept 10 and bust some F'ng skulls.
|
I'd go back to 1990 - 1993. Thats when my Dad was at his best in the surf, I was 21 and partying with my friends. We actually passed each other a few times, I'd be leaving the Ocean Mist at 1am, he'd be heading to Carps. The best times of my life were fishing with him but we never night fished for bass together. I'd give almost anything to see him land a fish again.
