Crazy idea, truck mounted fish finders???
How about if a fish finder was invented that could be mounted on a sand sled that would scan the water that is adjacent to the sled as it drives paralell to the water. Like a side scan radar, but it only scans 90 degrees to the right or left depending on which way your driving. Just because it isn't mounted on the bottom of a boat in the water should not matter should it?

won't work needs to be in the water to ping
|
Why couldn't the ping penetrate the surface of the water and reflect off of what the ping hit. Or would the surface of the water itself ping back to the fish finder.
|
Maybe if your sand sled was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang !!!
|
swimmer
did you confiscate some drugs today and partake of any??:jump:
|
Hey it was just a thought. No one can tell me it isn't possible, and if it is possible that people here wouldn't buy such a toy. And bro I thought you might drop off the eyes at work. Hey Ronnie it could work just like it does on the boat. Pointed forward from the bow of your boat gives you warning before your trolling gear actually is close to the fish. One could arrange a fish finder on the front of a truck in much the same fashion.

Drugs? You get to confiscate drugs?...

then it would be the same as boat fishin' ; and everyone knows 'boat fish don't count ' :) |
Do you do drugs Danny? Everyday...
:hidin: |
Now outriggers on the sand sled...That could work..:bl:
|
Nope. Signal would just skip off the water.
You were gonna put it in the cruiser, weren't you?:faga: |
Yah outriggers Squid Kids Dad..........good idea. Cruise East Beach or Metcalf's Hole at 3 m.p.h. with a tube and worm.
Yes Jake, comes with the territory. Ross I don't think we could anything else in the cruisers equiment-wise and still be able to operate them safely. Here's a thought though, we could immerse the end of the fishfinder on a pole suspended from the outrigger and probably aquire a signal that way. |
Would work in the Cape Cod Tunnel......:jump:
|
I know, how bout if someone would invent this thing where you talk into it and another person miles away could here you and respond back.... "smoke another buddie"
Swimmer, test your invention in a down pour:hee: |
Swimmer.
Side-scan or other sonars dont work in air. they wont propagate through air. Sorry, good idea though |
RIRock -
Thanks for the real answer. Swimmer, good idea, someday who knows... |
This is what I have you have to get out to use it but it works great for the surf

i had one of those...... and it worked sweet....
...... it had to be held down by a bungy cord tho. |
The best thing about the fishing buddy is it gives a side view as well as a bottom view, The bottom view would be null in this case
|
BUT ... With the right Planar board setup you could theoretically tow a sonar x-ducer and get your reading that way :wiggle:
|
I can smell the wood burning.
So JR its not such a whacked out idea after all. Not very probable, but still not totally insane.
What if your vehicle is stationary on the beach because your plugging, and position a fishfinder in the water. Why wouldn't that work. You could stand there and not cast until a known object swims nearby or in your direction. A small screen could be attached to yourself in some manner and BINGO, make your cast. |

need to connect it to some power pro, cast it out into the surf and reel her back.
Would be cool in the canal too but I believe the distance is limited. |
