Time to get off yer.......
Ass and start fishing! Stiffy and me made an early morning trek to the other end of the Cape yesterday morning trout fishing, First trip of the new year with rod and reels in hand and my first cast landed a beautiful 17'' brook trout. We landed a dozen more after that first one all fat and clean and all released to fight again.
We had takes at all the ponds we fished except one which was too deep and cold. Stixck to smaller ponds and shake off the rust, It's time and in less than 4 weeks the striped ones will be here in force. The lathe is shut down I am afraid till next fall. I got the fever now.:rotf2: Tight lines to you all.:) |
3 schoolies yesterday in a river UDL. ;)
|
I went yesterday AM looking for holdovers, got zip but it sure felt good. Couple lobsters in my traps for lunch.
|
I made two trips this week to one of my spring run spots. The bass were there, fat as hell too. We got some nice fish in the 28-34 inch range.... :)
|
Not that I did any recently but northern shallow parts of ponds are your best bets for bass this time of year.

Sunday evening, 2- Browns, 2-Brookies and one Rainbow, several misses. No bait just plastic and metal.
The most disturbing thing was driving out to a pristine trout pond in the NATIONAL SEASHORE corridor in Truro and finding a new sign with a warning that it is catch and release only due to high Mercury content in fish tested from that pond. :eek5: Way out there in the woods and so close to the beach you can hear the breakers. How does this happen? |

Lot of Strange chit and Ordinance left in/on/under the ground.. lot of things could have leeched into them ponds. |
Did a little Googling; the Seashore lists one pond in Truro contaminated but the study is on-going. Musta been a fairly recent addition. They claim the source is atmospheric. Smoke from coal fired power plants are big producers of mercury.
Personally, I think it's a crock o doo. In the case that you state, I believe it may either be a counterfeit sign or an inside job to keep us nasty knuckle dragging fishermen away from someone's trophy home. Seen it before. No signs until a fisherman is spotted. How many people are poisoned by mercury in this country? |

Ah, Fred, did you check out our secret spot on Google earth yet? |
Oh I did see a run full of herring this morning and four Ospreys flying around over them. I got Red wing blackbirds at my feeders too and crocuses and daffs so I guess we are "there".
|
I've stands all I can stands, and I can't stands no more. All packed and ready to head to one of my Spring haunts right after work. ETD 45 minutes! This will be my first trip out since stowing the ice fishing gear yesterday. Boo yah! Let the games begin!!!

Sunday was a nice day, 65+ schoolies, warm son, son & girl-friend and spring was in the air.
