Is this the first time its ever "slipped"? Any chance of them correcting themselves without surgery?

They don't really correct themselves...you need therapy. They'll twist and turn and pull you and push you and use all kinds of physical torture to try to squeeze it back in. Sometimes it doesn't work, then it gets worse and they try shots- which worked for me (no more problems since 1999). If that doesn't work then they recommend surgery.

I go to a Chiropractor with good results. Never had a slipped disk though. I can PM the one I go to in Marshfield, he's great.

sometimes

you can do it yourself .....and it'll pop back in where it likes to be...

the way you accomplish that....

is to lay on the floor and cross one leg and hip over the other side....while
trying to reach with you opposite arm to the opposite side

your essentially doing to yourself .....what a chiropractor
does to you manually.... like ringing out a dishrag....
take your time....

figure out what your range of motion is....doing it both ways on opposite sides... if your able to ....that is...

where you get stuck or stopped is the slipped disc
fighting you ..... its all muscles and tendons ....holding it
in place... (or out of place) always stretch very gently

you have to identify...the sweet spots (or positions) where you have no pain
and the trigger spots which amplify the .... pain response...

by doing a careful comparison you can figure out where your out
of whack... also by looking at your shoulder blade height in the mirror.......

sometimes you can do it by yourself and other times not...

slow stretching while in the shower (hydrotherapy)
...trying to touch your toes helps... but don't force it...
slow and easy...

good luck

been 20 years. still intermittently an issue. You need PT,a good muscle strengthening routine and alot of stretching. I choose not to do the surgery route.

I recommend you try a chior. i don't have a slipped disk but started going to one a few weeks ago. Feels great. He will also be able to tell you everything you need to know about your back. Most ins. cover. If yours does not then mine will take you for $25 cash per visit. Well worth it. Salem, NH. PM me if you want contact info.

Good luck.
