is there any truth.....

to the story about the canal being closed this year?
I had read an article that I believed to be true stated that starting in May and running through November they will be dredging the canal from west to eat.
If this is indeed true, it will ruin the entire season.
Even if they start at the west end in May, it will cloud the water on every easterly flow and will probably destroy the herring run.

I think it was a joke, as all the articles relating to dredging the canal are from 2001.

Cape Cod Canal Dredging Notice Issued.

From: Corps Report | Date: January 9, 2007

Cape Cod Canal Dredging Notice Issued -- The New England District is proposing a dredging project in the Cape Cod Canal channel and West Mooring basin. Public comments on the project are due by Jan. 17. The estimated cost of the project is $1 million-$5 million. The plan calls for removing about 300,000 cubic yards of material. Assuming no delays stemming from the public comment process, the district should issue a request for proposals in February or March, with work to begin during the summer. ...

That article was actually dated 2002. I just wanted to stir the pot a little more ;)

However, in talking with people, it would not shock me any if that article was true in that, with a federal job it would take about 4 years to get anything going! ;)
