Slinging Eels?

What is the best hook type and size to use if you are slinging eels and retreiving them ala OTW did off Nomans? Can I use a circle hook?

Circle hooks suck...they are complete nonsense, bass do not ever get "gut hooked" with a live eel, back of the throat is as far as that thing gets..Beside that you have to wait for the fish to hook themselves=No fun at all...

Use a Mustad 94150 Live Bait hook size 6/0

Stay away from Gami octopus hooks there way to thin and tear thru the eel to fast...Cast em out and reel em in slow thats all there is to it..

If you like to snell your hooks try the Mustad 92553BL in size 6/0. To me just as good as the Gama Octopus at about half the price.

If your going to direct tie with a clinch, palomar or such then the 94150 in size 6/0. Normally use this hook but make sure you take the time to sharpen it.

If you want to try a circle hook than go with the Eagle Claw L2004EL non-offset ring lug, in size 7/0. Only wait a second or two on the pick up and than give a steady pull back until you are on. If you pull it out let it drop, they will often pick it up again.

Run a search on Eel Hooks. You will probably come up with a 1000 threads on this same subject.

use circles, 99% hookup rate when you know how to use them and much less damaging to the resource...

94150 is the most widely used . I use mustard circle hooks sometimes when I run out of 94150s
