Slinging Eels?
What is the best hook type and size to use if you are slinging eels and retreiving them ala OTW did off Nomans? Can I use a circle hook?

If you like to snell your hooks try the Mustad 92553BL in size 6/0. To me just as good as the Gama Octopus at about half the price.
If your going to direct tie with a clinch, palomar or such then the 94150 in size 6/0. Normally use this hook but make sure you take the time to sharpen it. If you want to try a circle hook than go with the Eagle Claw L2004EL non-offset ring lug, in size 7/0. Only wait a second or two on the pick up and than give a steady pull back until you are on. If you pull it out let it drop, they will often pick it up again. |
Run a search on Eel Hooks. You will probably come up with a 1000 threads on this same subject.

use circles, 99% hookup rate when you know how to use them and much less damaging to the resource...

94150 is the most widely used . I use mustard circle hooks sometimes when I run out of 94150s
