Boating safety

Hi Guys, I am looking into signing up for a boating safety class, not sure which one to choose. I am looking into taking the basic boating course, which is the best all around one? Coast Guard Auxiliary, Boatwise, any others? Looking for something on the South Shore of Mass. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

Thanks, has anyone taken it. I found this also but just want some opinions on which is worth taking. Anyone taken the online/self study course?

That's the one I took way back when. It was a nice relaxed atmosphere and took three months. Homework questions from the back of each chapter need to be done each week. All the answers are in the text. The two exams are straight from the homework questions. Wife and I aced both tests. The USCGA people were great. The other class members were great. I have no complaints at all.

I also took the GPS Navigation class at the same time but I had to do that one in Boston.

Same thing. Very professional and a great learning experience.

Try to hook up with someone who knows the water you'll be in, or talk to the local harbormaster. All the classes in the world don't match time on the water.

Thanks guys. I'll check these out.

Boatwise all the way. Well worth it.

I took the clas above 15 years ago, I learned things I didn't know about boating and trailing!

Bet leason is on the water, but no harm learing a few things before you get out there either!!

If you are talking about the basic safety course offered by the US CG Aux; I strongly recommend it for many reasons including the discount you get on your boat insurance for taking it. If you are referring to the OUPV license, thats a another kettle of fish all together

Another recommendation for USCG Aux for a beginner's course. I didint know as much a sI thought I did and found it very helpful.

Check the Mass. Maritime Acadamy website for basic, as well as advanced courses, in anything marine related.
