Need some help.....Dandylions!
My lawn has been overtaken by dandylions....worse than I have ever seen.....any clue how I can get a handle on these things....they just keep multipying...overnight.....it's crazy....I tried a fertilizer with weed control, but it's not touching it.....any ideas? Thanks

I lo$t the weed battle. The system Scotts has works great, but I was spending more on Scott's than I could justify, and my wife was worried about the kids and chemicals.
I swear the chemists who invented that stuff figured out how to ruin a lawn once you stop using their product, because once I stopped the yard went to hell in a handbag. Now my kids ride their bikes all over it and I can spend the money I save on gas, oil and electricity. :wall: |

You need to apply the weednfeed ONLY when the grass is wet. Very early morning or after a good rain.. Needs to stick to the greens to work. Absolutely useless if it does not.
I used to have a Scotts lawn...then I moved to the stix and now I don't give a crap as long as it's green. Crabgrass looks good too in the summer. Gives me more time for fishing :hee: |
Roto till the hole thing and start from scratch! :usd:
Scotts puts out a hose end spray bottle of the Weed & Feed. Ortho or someone puts out a mixture or concentrate for a garden sprayer. But that puts you back using chemicals.... Someone mentioned letting the grass get high so it chokes them out in combination with alot of hand picking...:bounce: |
Guy's estate in Maine I do tower work at is a completely natural lawn. No chemicals and no weeds. NOT ONE.

always mow before they get white and puffy. the puffy stuff are seeds. if you dont yer screwed. you can buy a tool for digging up dandy lions. it looks like a crow bar with a v shaped notch in the business end.. get it , dig em out and always mow before they go white.
no more dandy lions. |
Hell if it weren't for the dandy's I wouldn't have a green lawn! I really can't wait for the heat of summer ... no watering, mow it so it's about 1/2" long and let it burn. No maintainance and more time to fish. I'm almost ready to pave the front yard and paint it green.
I hate grass ... yeah even the ones you twist up too. |
Pull 'em...

Dandelios are absolutely out of control around here. Usually I can go out a few times with a five gallon bucket and an old knife I found and go down for the root and once they're gone that's it, so I tried a Vigoro Weed 'n Feed this year and was amazed at the job it did on the dandelions. And after putting that down if there were spots it seemed I missed, I just took my hand held monkey grinder spreader. In a matter of days it was obvious I won. Unfortunately, whatever was in that fertlizer was like steroids on the grass. It grows back very fast and very green. I have a service do my front yard and they cut it twice. one guy in one direction and than another goes in another. Last week, they had to have a third guy come with grass catchers to vacuum up what the first two couldn't mulch. I forget which Vigoro Weed 'N Feed, think it had a 19 in the mixture numbers.

Wee-b-gon concentrate
Buy a spray bottle that dispenses at the end of your hose at different rates, like 1 oz. per gallon and son on. Then get yourself some weed-b-gon concentrate, not the premix stuff. And spray it on your lawns weeds. Works well.
But like #^^^^^^^^^^^& says, if it is out of a bag if you don't apply it first thing in the morning on the dew then you wasted your money. |
