Those look really nice. The only thing holding me back from getting one is the giant logos they put on.

Finaddict 05-17-2007 08:30 PM

Hey Pete,

How does this compare to the simms tops ... the new one for 240

NIGHT STRIKES 05-18-2007 08:51 AM

I'm with you purplenoon.....it's a damn shame cause they do look good.

I'll have to do a YouTube piece on the neck gasket of the Phantom. All the waterproofness of a true neck gasket without the misery and wrestling match.

yeppers
they aren't paying you to be a walking advertisement
so yeah that ruins it....bigtime

when you have a good product keep
the logo small and classy ,,,,
not so bold and huge....

car dealers tried that with trucks and learned the hard way

That is a non - issue for me. As long as it doesn't say "Viagra" or
"Preparation H " its OK by me!

I've got 60 of them ordered. At the price they're going to go for I expect it to be a hot seller.

But it's not here yet. :wall:

spence 05-19-2007 06:47 AM

What about now, are they here now?

Different top, sort of. I really like the neck on the new Aquaskinz. Photos don't really do it justice. Kind of have to see it in person or maybe in video.

I think it's going to be as dry or drier then the system on the EVO2 or Simms and a lot easier to use.

Redsoxticket 05-19-2007 11:09 AM

The photo of those Aquaskinz tops appear to be long if you use the wrist cuffs as your basis of distance. The waste band will be wrapped around the thighs (normal torsos) or slightly above the knees for short torsos.

What are the lengths from shoulders to bottom ?

Super high end niche mountaineering companies like Wild Things and Arc'Teryx put small logos typically on the breast or back and the name down low where your arm covers it. They're tasteful and well done.

Honestly, let the product speak for itself. If someone wants to know who made it they'll come up to you and ask what it is. And then your customers can expound upon the greatness of what they are. :D

The ONLY product I have that has a giant logo on it is my SLAM dry top (for sailing) and the only reason it has a large logo is because they're a sponsor.

As much as also I hate the big logos on Skinz gear I can't blame them for doing it. There's no way a small business with such niche appeal could affort the marketing budget necessary to build brand equity on a new product line.

Additionally, the bold yellow on the Nor'Easter is going to be a bitch to coordinate with...not to mention how bad it will look with my skin tone.

Then how come companies like Wild Things survive being part of an even more niche market than Aquaskins? They're a tiny shop in North Conway, NH that makes all their products IN THE US and survives just fine with minimal advertising.

Much older and established business, it's also serving a much larger market with broader appeal.

25 year old company catering to mountaineers.
I think there are just a COUPLE more people who've stood in the surf than have been over 14k.

protty31 05-20-2007 03:42 AM

The large logo wouldn't be as bad if they made the actual logo better looking.
