Watch out for those dogfish...

From the Irish Independent...

There are few more enjoyable ways of wasting a few hours - or days, if the conditions are right - than fishing.

Sure, some of the more effete, fey dilettantes prefer fly fishing.

But for those who have a bit of Hemingway in their blood, the only fishing that really counts is to go out and catch something which can do you a bit of damage.

So, take a bow, angler Phil Tanner, who ended up being the catch of the day when he went to his local pier in Folkestone, Kent England.

Tanner was delighted to catch a dogfish - an inedible, but remarkably strong member of the shark family - until the fish fought back.

And took hold of his nose, refusing to let go.

According to the rueful Tanner: "It was agony. I could feel it chomping on me as if it were his last meal.

"Everyone on the pier was watching me jumping up and down.

"I've never felt so embarrassed."

Why on earth would he feel embarrassed?

Let's be honest, running up and down a pier with a small shark attached to your face seems pretty cool to me.

Although perhaps the whole screaming like a little girl thing didn't help his reputation.
