mole crabs
Does anyone know anything about how and when to catch mole crabs (also called sand fleas, among other names)?
What time of day/tide are they around? How far into the surf do they congregate? How far into the sand do they habituate? How can you tell where they are burrowed into the sand? Are they on EVERY beach or just certain beaches? I was drowning eels one night last summer at East Matunuck and they were crawling all around me, on my feet, in my stuff. Everywhere! Now, I can't find them anywhere but some local guys have told me to just dig in the sand at the edge of the water and I'll find them. I haven't found them anywhere. HELP!! |
try looking under clumps of sea grass washed up on he beach at the high tide mark, or bring a lantern to the beach some night and leave your bait in the sand, they seem to like that.
