When the surfcastin gets slow.....

wat do u do? im sure there must be some good ideas out there. i'd get a boat if i had the dough!

pmueller 06-18-2007 09:33 AM

Fish areas that you normally would not fish.

RIJIMMY 06-18-2007 09:36 AM

rocks - eels - nighttime - patience
There is bound to be a fish eventually

striperman36 06-18-2007 10:15 AM

GO out on the boat.

Rappin Mikey 06-18-2007 10:44 AM

Get a kayak. Much cheaper in the long run, especially with gas these days. Also a very productive and exciting way to fish.

luds 06-18-2007 10:44 AM

Throw chunks and :gu: :D

reelecstasy 06-18-2007 10:46 AM

Kayak, spent the day in mine yesterday, and it was great

Slingah 06-18-2007 11:12 AM

Rockport24 06-18-2007 11:15 AM

eels or other bait at night

EarnedStripes44 06-18-2007 01:12 PM

Rocks are key, even more so than sand. So much so that they are called Rockfish south of the mason dixon line. So always think rocks, think dangerously inaccessble slippery surfbeaten crags in the dead of night.

GonnaCatchABig1 06-18-2007 03:27 PM

get frustrated.. hit the rocks.. lose a rig every cast... give up and :gu: .. and then when you are so hammered there is no way would be able to set a hook, and you are 100yds from your rod chatting about spots.. it will pick up.

Tagger 06-18-2007 03:48 PM

fishing for me gets slow first extended heat wave .. then its nights only ..

RickBomba 06-18-2007 03:48 PM

Try to catch eagles.

capecodkid 06-18-2007 03:53 PM

Go on the boat:hee:

Pete F. 06-18-2007 04:01 PM

I don't know what you guys are complaining about, you could be trout fishing like me. Yesterday it was stupid fishing with a nymph and a indicator(bobber) I must have caught 50 fish.
But I would rather have been wandering around in the dark, with big waves and salty water...

protty31 06-18-2007 04:43 PM

Go freshwater:biglaugh:

LOL, that was a cool picture. The way it was taken made the eagle look 4 1/2" tall

little early to be talking about when the fishing gets slow isnt it? we've been talking all winter about what we will do when they get here and now its slow?? what about in between then and there?

numbskull 06-18-2007 05:24 PM

The slower it gets, the better each fish feels.

Goose 06-18-2007 05:32 PM

Stay home and.....:think:mmmmmm lemme see what threads can I start,,,,,thats what some guys do:D.

The first thing I did (tonight)was dig a four foot hole under my deck put a 55 gallon eel live well in,I've been putting this for too long!

I was also thinking about putting in a huge new fire pit with a 8' aprin around it and run a coax cable & electric to it for future use, like when football starts I can watch games by the fire & booze it up with:buds:

Other than that there's some other little stuff around the house I wanna do but that's on the back burnner.

I think we'll do a couple of camping trips in Maine & N.H.

Clogston29 06-19-2007 01:04 PM

when it gets slow you just have to keep at it - how else are you gonna know when it heats up - wait for someone on the internet to tell you?

yup!
I'm usually not the type to drive all over the state looking for em so my backup plan...sit down throw some chunks out have a few :gu: enjoy the stars & scenery....

Just this monday Island Girl and I were throwing plugs for a good hour or or so...for nothing :af: :sleeps: so instead of moving or giving up... I threw on some chunks to soak. I/G and I just about had enough :buds: so I get up to reel in the bait...when....bam! :jump1:

this fish took off. Not the biggest but definetly an enjoyable night.. Probably would not have gotten it (we both would have quit by then) if we were just throwing plugs all night...

I rarely chunk but its nice to use as a backup plan. Makes for a relaxing and enjoyable night rather than just a boring/frustrating one...
