To Float or not to Float...

With regards to a fishfinder rig, float or no float. I understand the float keeps the bait away from the crabs and skate but is there any collateral, like spooked fish. I know stripers haver killer eyesight and are wary of wire leaders, does the float induce a similar spookiness?

i never use a wire leader on my fishfinder rig, always heavier mono like 40-50 lb. to answer ure question, i use the fishfinder when chunking fresh dead bait, other wise, if im using an eel or live bait, i dont use the float. id be interested to see or hear if people use the float when using live baits to help keep them off the bottom. but for chunkin, its almost a must.

ive never used a float myself but have always been curious, i usualy will fish one rod with chunk bait and most of the time a fishfinder setup. im going to give it a shot today, hopefully the bluefish dont shy away from the float, hehehe. ohh, and the floats ive seen are clear i believe, so it'd probally resemble a jellyfish if the striper even saw it at all.

i use orange floats and thats never been a problem for me so dont shy away from one float over the other
