Fresh Pogie Chunks or Livelinging.
So after a couple weeks of not so great luck and a long friday night out on the harbor livelining pogies with minimal success. I followed someones advice and switched to chunks. 10 minutes later and I had two keepers in the boat.
My questions is, when there are zillions of pogies in the harbor and the bass have a feast in front of them. Is livelining really a productive way to fish? It seems to me that they might have to expend just a little too much effort to get them and fresh chunks present them with that oportunistic meal that they are after. Even with a bleeding, nearly dead pogie, the livelining didn't work. What are your thoughts? |
Plain and simple...Easy meal..Why chase it if they don't have to.

go with watever catches fish. it might bedazzle us that they do the things the way they do them, but we're not bass and no matter how hard we try to think like them, there are times when we just have no idea wat is goin on down there so go with watever works best. i woulda thought live lining but in ure case, u had a buch of lazy bass under u. musta been from the vineyard ;)

chunks can work better at times. If I find a school of pogies being mauled by blues, I'll put on a chunk with a3-4 oz sinker near the school and send it to the bottom. Often times a lazy bass will pick it up.
