Good Place In RI To get a HUGE Striper
Well surf fishin in mass has been s#^^^^^&g big time lately, so if anyone has a good place to catch a good sized striper from the beach and or rocks in RI I'd really apreciate it. If you could give me directions from boston that would be cool too:)
|
Adam - Rhody ain't the panacea at the moment either... Still, in Mass, water is somewhat cool up off Rockport & Gloucseter,Certainly worth a shot on the back beaches of the Cape - look for mung free water...
For Rhody, there is the Weekapaug/Watch Hill/Naps area to look at as some people are reporting a pick of decent fish... |
down this way(southcoast mass) the story is bluefish, the type that clean your bait off your hook before it hits the bottom. have been picking a few bass when the blues stop to go poop. north of the cape seems to be the place you want to be.

You can come down, buy some bait, some lunch, some gas, etc. and R.I. will appreciate it. But you won't be taking R.I. fish. It's too Hot!!!!!! Above post----" North of Cape"---your only hope. Unless of course you have a boat--then...........:) :)

You'd be surprised at the amount of bass off the coast of RI. Catching them is another story. Last thursday morning Charlestown Breachway was full of 30-40" stripers feeding on clouds of small bait. Every night since on the incoming its ridiculos how many fish are splashing in the channel eating these juvenile baitfish. In 2 nights of hard fishing we grabbed 4 and we tried EVERYTHING (eels, flyrod, plugs, jigs, etc). So I know the fish are around, there just in a finicky mode. Just keep pluggin away and they'll come around!

Red those blues still around?
|
sure are, and getting a little fatter, might be almost 3 lbs. now. bandits they are. too much like work as you know.
|
where the bluefish at? Can you be more specific where to go to get those blues on the south shore? directions would be terrific:)
|
evening as the sunsets or just as day breaks anywhere around gooseberry island in both directions. lot of bait in the surf. and i'm talking southcoast, not southshore. pm me if you would like directions.;)

Errr!!!....Red....you're putting a strong magnet from the Southwest on me for Friday morning.....;).....decisions, decisions......

Here fishy fishy...
Any blues or bass in the C-town area?? Is fishing from shore at first light worth trying?
Thanks :) |
If you want the Stripers Need to go further North... colder waters. Iv had some luck with bluefish the past few weeks in natucket sound though off of West Dennis Beach. I also caught a few really nice sized fluke one of em was 20 inches.. I was surprised

Shhh...what I am about to tell you is a secret, please keep it to yourself :) ... If you *have* to fish from shore in RI right now...
Take the ferry over to BI. Fish the low change SW point in the middle of the night and the South side pockets on the flood. Try Charlestown or Sandy point just before daybreak. You should connect. The water is slightly cooler on the island and you get a good flush of clean water around the island every tide. It is best to wait a month or so but if you are dying to catch a big one now IMO this is your best bet in RI. In MA I would head to Nantucket and fish late at night at the hotspots there for the same reasons. BTW, eels work this time of year BUT the have a short lifespan when rat blues are chomping at their tails. Stick with plugs. (my fav: the needlefish) As always, your mileage may vary... |
Great Post Sandman--You won't find better advice. "wait a month" is my favorite part.
