Favorite Beach for the Kids?
I know alot of us go to the beach at night......but I'm looking to take my kids to the beach this weekend ( Saturday ) maybe....I'd like to go somewhere over the bridge? Any favorites of you guys? I don't mind paying to get in or anything....just want to go to a decent beach....
oh ya,......no fishing...just relaxing.....I'll fish later that night. Thanks! |
Since you're in Wareham, I have gone to old Silver beach in Falmouth, I think it was like $15 to park (insane) but its a nice beach for kids, small waves, snack shop etc.
A bit of a stretch if your down on the south shore, but Crane's Beach in Ipswich is very nice as well. As is Duxbury in Plymouth (Great fishing too).
Scusset beach at the east end of the canal.

I'll second Old Silver.... great especially with little kids.

head of the meadow. When you are done with the kids you can attack the beaches in the area.
Old Silver should be pretty good this time of year, as well as South Cape Beach in Mashpee. Ridgevale in Chatham is great for kids (snack bar, restrooms, and tidal pools that are fun for kids), but it's probably too early in the year for swimming there. Stay on the south side of the Cape or on Buzzards bay because the water on the north side is still cold.

Low tides in the middle of the day this weekend. Take them to Mayflower Beach in Dennis. Kid's love it. Huge sandbars to play on.
Excellent tidal pools @ Marconi beach for the kids. Love Head of the Meadow too for the kids...

head of the meadow lots of beach for them to enjoy . its my girls favorite and they have fished it and coast guard at night with me
For small kids Mayflower Beach in Dennis is great. Lots of sand bars, the tide goes way out. However, not too much beach when the tide is full, people are almost sitting in your lap.
In North Truro, Head of the Meadow is great and so is Cold Storage Beach across the Bay on Highland Road. It's a shallow beach at low tide.
Old Silver Beach
West Dennis Beach is good also.
any beach on the north side of dennis. for a little warmer water. west dennis beach or smugglers(bass river) beach in yarmouth
favorite beach to go as a kid wa good harbor in gloucester... hands down.. big waves... awsome for 8 years and up....
boogie board size waves.. kinda far for you though. |
Iv'e been to quite a few beaches on the cape with and without the kids and here are my picks.
1: Old silver beach in Falmouth. Good sand low waves (no rip tide) and plenty of beach. I would plan to go kind of early on a weekend due to the popularity of this beach. If your planning to stay a while I highly recommend the Seacrest resort. It's right on old silver beach but it has it's own privet section with a bar just off the beach. At night is when I brake out the fishing gear:kewl: the lights from the restaurant attract Bait fish and scup in to the swim area and live lining scup off the jetty that runs along the out flow of the near by salt pond is a great way to get big cows. I have a few days reserved for my family this summer. 2:Nauset beach in East Orleans is a great beach. a bit cold this time of the year and Because it's facing the Atlantic it's prone to big surf and some times rip tides. the public swim area has life guards, rest rooms and a snack bar near by. there's plenty of reasonably priced parking and usually more than enough beach for every one. When we go to naust we walk to the right just beyond the life guard tower were it's OK to fish and I put out a sand spike and Dead stick a sea worm. I can't think of any beaches on the bay side that aren't great But Brewster and Denis are my favorit. Be aware of the tide in Brewster However, because at low tide you will have to walk about a mile to get to the deep end But the walk is one of the reason I like Brewster. I hope this helps. I could go on all day but you get the jist.Plymouth has great beaches and is a bit closer if your just looking for a good day trip. Check out Horseneck beach. |
Go to coast guard beach it is awesome. It was even rated the 7th best beach in the Usa. The kids love it.
south cape beach in mashpee. great beach with easy access. if it gets slow, walk about a mile down the beach to the jetty. oh wait just remembered ure with kids, scratch that idea :)
Sandwich Beach, never crowded, back water creek for exploring, safe in the front for little swimmers, right over the bridge.

stay on the vineyard sound side if you want to go swimming, it's much warmer.
I like the beach by onset harbor, it's a bay with no waves, but lots of hermit crabs and other fun sea life for the kids. Plus there are shops/food nearby to help occupy the day. |
Thanks Guys.....
