how do you rig sand eels for the canal? going to try them tomorro...

I've never done it there but you could try a rig with a penny weight, that should work.

drift them though, don't leave on the bottom or you may lose everything if you are fishing rocks

Here is how I do it. That is a 5 oz egg sinker. I use weights varying from 3 up to 6 ozs. Attach a 3' piece of mono to weight and attach running line to same point. I use a 7/0 octopus hook. Flip it up current and let it roll like a jig.

I like to use fresh sand eels. If they are really big ones I will only rig them singular. If smaller I put on 3 or 4 hooked thru the head.

I have never fished them in the canal before but Dave's set up looks great. I hook them through the eyes and fresh is the way to go. Fresh frozen is very good too but if not frozen right they will not stay on the hook very long.
