I saw a guy fishing off a jetty i had caught nothing with clams but he was gettting tons with makeral. So I ant to give it a try, what is the best way to rigg chunked makeral and how do you cut it a diagram would be very much appriceated. I have tried it with a striped bass rig equipt w/ an orange float with out much success. PLZ REPLY QUICK I WANT TO FISH TOMARROW MORNING AT 6

Did you see how he was fishing it, there is 2 ways
1st is a fishfinder rig
2nd is a hi lo rig

Really no wrong way. Just allot of personal preferance. I simply put an egg sinker on the running line to suit need. As far as chunks use the head, tail, mid body.....1" piece, 2", 3" or use the whole thing! Use single hooks. I like the Mustad 94150's in 7 or 8/0.

i was fishin small chunks like 1/5 th of a plain doughnut size..

and all i could catch was medium bluefish... fun , but i wanted a striper...
i was tired and hungry .... about to go home

and was gonna throw this big chunk out in the water'
to feed the crabs

then i said what the heck and hooked it on the whole big piece

i caught a fish so big it spooled me....:rotflmao:

Just throw it on a hook and toss it off the jetty....no weight. let it float freely

if you use em count to 5 at least and don't set the hook.

i never get past 2. :tooth:

catching Seagulls, thats all I catch when I fish a chunk that way

Mackeral is killer bait up here in Massachusetts

...also, add a float to that fishfinder, it will keep the bait away from crabs and skates. 6" to 8" from the hook is good. Use 18" inch leader of some top quality 50lb line. Its better than wire leaders.

if there is current ... cut a nice sliver of filet LENGTHWISE (with skin on of course).

then, at the narrow end, slice an inch or two down the middle to give the filet a "fork" that will flutter in the current.
