Putting a small amount of lead in the tail of a swimmer.
 

What is the reason that a small amount of lead is put in the tail of certain swimmers? Is it to aid casting or slow down the action of the lure? A Danny plug kit I purchased also came with a small amount of lead for the tail. :huh:

What types of swimmers usually get some lead in the tail and which don't? :confused:

Generally, I don't add tailweight to a metal lip. But I have added a 1/4 " tailweight to a pikie style. Got a little more distance, went deeper faster, and slowed the wiggle, got a more snaky swim.

Some swimmers will bite real good and raise the tail. The weight will keep the tail down and allow for a nice slow retrieve and V wake when fished on top.

Both of the reasons you mentioned. If you take the wobble out of the cast you will be suprised how much moe distance you get.

if you swim them in current the tail weight helps slow them down...
